invested in the s&p 500 that $543 is now worth a cool $400,000.

Thanks for the calc!

Agree re: better "investment" opotys.

I still wish my Dad had bought one of those. I have a 34mm 14kt gold Oyster a perpetual from around that vintage he gave me...afraid it's not quite worth $350,000. 🙄

Not that I'm ungrateful!

What I'd give for a crystal ball for watches - in addition to the S&P 500!

Could be either a 6241 or a 6264 I think. Hard to tell from the photo.

I've no idea how Antiques Roadshow got it wrong though because it came with box and papers apparently, which should have the correct model on them?

Didn't know there was antiques or history in the US. and the theme tune is lame compared to ours.

Couldn't watch the vid because restricted due to location, but found on youtube, goto 47.30

It didn't come with papers per se. He had both inner and outer boxes but only a sales receipt that cited the shop's stock number.
But I agree their "expert" got it wrong in a big way.
The best part was the guy's expression!

As for S&P investment - in 1973 you couldn't buy an index so $543 wouldn't get you 1 share of each equity in the index. But you could wear your Daytona!
