What a stunning pair you have there!
The 130th anniversary pieces are to die for IMO. You're one lucky guy to have one of those. I'd prefer the 039 in platinum but too bad they're all sold out (lucky for my wallet though) |

I just picked up one of these -
GS Spring Drive 10th Anniversary model - SBGA109. http://www.ablogtowatch.com/grand-se...eiko-roadshow/ WOW. Quality is just sublime. Running +/- ZERO seconds after 6 days so far. Most satisfying watch I've ever bought new, cannot fault it. |

Great pics there Nil.. I would have loved to have you take pics of my Grand Seiko Quartz. It deserves micro pictures! Maybe I should try over the weekend.

Thanks dude! Mine's taken with a macro lens... Fret not if you don't have any specialised photography equipment... I've heard of people taking fantastic macros using just a handphone and a loupe... You might wanna try it out

The GS case shape never appealed to me. Nothing personal.

My SGBA109 titanium cased 41 mm Spring Drive.
Nice pic of the GS 9R15 (+/- 5 sec per month Spring Drive) movement detailing. Getting up into the PP altitude while certainly a cloud layer below. Note the GS Lion logo on the rotor. Tatami dial will match up with any dial ever made. Engraved rehaut a la Rolex announcing special edition 10th Anniversary Spring Drive. |

I've owned several GS and they are fine watches. The clasps however are very subpar and the main reason I've flipped them all. The diver extension is very awkward and I don't like the typical fold over on most of the steel bracelet models. That said - certainly a wonderfully finished watch. Did I get that feeling of strapping a PP on, nope. Just nope.

Thanks Jon. I was drawn into that dial myself. But can't really pull a trigger on a Spring Drive just yet.
AP1, show your PP then! |

Can't get past it
I think that at first glance it looks like the watch is saying, BS BS
That was my first impression and that will be my first thought Whenever I see a Grand Seiko... I rather buy a used Patek, or any other quality swiss movement, every day of the week. A better comparison would be Seiko & Omega

I am not a fan of the spring drive print on the dial similarly I do not like the coaxial script on an omega, just not interested in seeing the marketing subtext every time I look at the watch.

I'd love a 5167. Heck, make it a 5711. OR BOTH! Wait, throw in Mike's killer calatrava too! HAHA!
But I'm not a gold person (movements included). So I would just have to make do with pics. This thread was started as I'm trying hard to get a highly finished watch with no gold rotors or case or bracelets... That said, some might ask, "Why Grand Seiko then?" Answer (IMO): It does have some sick finishing and not too corrosive for the wallet. As much as I would love to OWN a Patek. I don't see a point owning an excellent watch I can't wear. So yeah.. |

I wish all my Omega's had been as good quality and highly finished as my Grand Seiko....maybe if they had been I'd still have one or two of them!

In my opinion, these two watches are comparable. Both are dual time zone watches, both are SS sport models. My GS has been worn in every situation without regard to damage and it still looks great. The Aquanaut has been carefully worn and shows the marks I don't even remember making. Also, in my opinion, The case, dial and bracelet, and finishing on the GS is second to none in design and details. I dare say it is certainly more intricate than my Aquanaut for less than nearly 5 times the price. That said I do love my PP 5164 and as far as I can foresee, it is a keeper. The same goes for my GS SBGE021. If you have not held a GS and studied the case chamfers, dial details and overall quality, you really can not understand. Funny, but that is exactly what I have been told about PP! If you like the design ethics, there is little else you can compare the GS to in the same price range. Mine is one of 150 world wide and it cost me $3,000 less than a Rolex GMT. The GMT functions are identical. The accuracy of the GS is second to none in my collection and you won't see it on everyone's wrist. Good luck in deciding what you want to buy.

Does the 24h hand moves/jumps independently when switching from one time zone to the next? Initially, I was eyeing the SBGM025.. Until I stumbled upon this http://www.hodinkee.com/blog/hands-o...ith-green-dial I'd be lucky to find one on anyone or for sale! I much prefer it to sbgm025 as the 24hour numerals are on the rehault? Also, that meticulously finished hands and hour markers along with the rich deep green dial... |

http://www.omegawatches.com/press/pr...se-detail/2907 I'd actually rate Rolex movements as third after Seiko (Hi-Beat and Spring Drive) and Omega Coax. Biggest mistake Rolex ever made was turning away George Daniels. |

The bezel is sapphire and the bezel has lume so it glows like a torch in the dark. It is rotatable. The dial is also heavily lumed for great night viewing. Pulling the crown out one position, moves the hour hand forward and backward. Pulling the crown out to the second position, sets the minute hand.

And that lume on it, that's so common sense and very useful and practical!! I believe the lume is of Seiko standards? But since it's a GS, I expect it to be better than normal Seiko lume? And i'm of those who always envies my brothers Seiko lume when I see it glowing at night. They are one of the best in the industry imo. Thanks for correcting me. I was referring to the Hour hands and not the GMT hands. So it behaves like a GMT-master II but with lume on the bezel inserts instead of indices. Are there similar model GMT GS with sapphire bezels with lume but not a spring drive? Really loving that lume! |
