Mind blowing that these are hand painted. I would love to see a video of the guy who does it.

Love the warmth of the rose gold version, at pretty chunky savings. Too bad I don't have the scratch.

why does this watch not get more love? been looking at watches in the 20,30,40k range and completely forgot about this one since it was on the higher end so kind of put it out of my radar. i guess it looks a bit boring but has so many subtleties.

Honestly? Seiko. Those who don't know enough about the company will never appreciate its majesty, and the number who will outside of Japan, and who can afford the price of entry (and turn their back on alternatives) is vanishingly small...

Having said that, I do think they're getting more hype. Hodinkee re-linked its article on the eichi 2 this week and a recent auction of the pt version went for 44.1k chf though still 10-15% below retail i believe. Also saw a prototype of the blue dial eichi 2 this week in person. The dial is...interesting. Not my cup of tea. Very much like a porcelain dish with the blue paint/dye (?) bleeding into the white underneath at the very edges of the dial. It's nice, but on wrist it looks black/very dark navy which makes it a difficult watch to wear i think. not nearly as versatile as the white dial pt/rg versions. But who knows, if blue dials are all the hype maybe it becomes more popular than the original. |

I kinda puked in my mouth them doing the blue dial. Half expecting a rainbow version to follow . I guess my question is the pricing since they have grand seiko lines that are at much higher price points which I don’t get considering the finishing of this one is supposed to be dufour levels.

Credor Eichi II
I find it odd that the only Credors discussed by the watch press are those in the Masterpiece collection (Fugaku tourbillon, Minute Repeater, Sonnerie and Eichi II, IIRC). The 100+ other models are essentially never mentioned, even though many of them are far less pricey.
I say this as someone who treasures his Credor GCLP993 Spring Drive large date. Not enough posts to include a photo, but hoping that’ll change soon. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I think the GS pricing is a very very recent change. They've definitely decided to go move up-market in pricing but without any corresponding improvement in quality. The 8-day, SGBZ001/3 are all around the same 50-60k price point. All micro artist studio, platinum, hand finishing etc. The SBGZ005 at $100k is nuts. Even the new SLGH002 with the new hi-beat movement and in gold is like 40-50k and isn't anywhere close to the Eichi in quality. Just makes the Eichi all the more of a steal at the current price imo. |

Eichi’s MSRP is still the same today as when it came out in 2012. Snowflake is only about 700 USD more than compare to 2005 when it first came out. Meanwhile Patek raise MSRP basically every year and 10%+ in the US just this year alone. Instead of adjusting prices on the same models, Seiko likes to do it on reissues, LEs, and of course, new models. SBGZ001 MSRP is 76k, and now 005 is 100k. Is it a big jump? Yes, but I guess seeing what Dufours are fetching on the market, maybe Seiko felt their micro artist studio pieces are underpriced. You are right though, this means eichi is a bargain compare to the 005, similar workmanship (mainly minus the internal angle) for far less money. |

Are there any concerns for long term servicing spring drive movements? I know with a standard mechanical movement anyone can work on it down the road. I suppose Seiko won't go out of business anytime soon, but wouldn't want a 50k paperweight down the road.

I can’t afford the Eichi, but I can afford this
And it’s pretty special. It’s kind of kitschy for sure, but really cool. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

There is a small circuit board inside with a custom IC, this is a concern if Seiko is not around anymore.

I was told by Seiko about 18 months ago that my handwound 7R87A Spring Drive (GCLP993) would have to return to Japan for servicing, Mahwah NJ could not service it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

A great idea, Pongster. I will do so once I have enough posts to upload an image. Just another post or two!
