This is a very odd move by Panerai. I don’t know what else to say. Disappointing for sure.

Personally I couldn’t care less about hacking, but the manner in which the change has been made is a problem. I do wonder if this will be across the board for all 9010 pieces or if some will maintain the hacking feature.

When pulling the crown out fully, you can apply gentle counter-clockwise rotational pressure on the crown and stop the seconds. Accurate time setting is possible, but a little extra pain. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The big question is, why make this change and why use the same movement number?

I think that's the crux of the issue for me personally. The hacking feature is nice but not make or break on a watch. However, continuing to advertise the feature while quietly removing it in the background is what's leaving a bad taste.

Yes I’ve done this “workaround” on a $150 Seiko skx if I recall correctly. You apply gentle reverse pressure using crown and hold minute hand and can even reverse direction of minute hand, but feels wrong and like you are doing damage. Ok for hundred dollar watch but doesn’t feel right for a Panerai. Perhaps there is some upside to this change that we are not aware of and more to the story.

Love the 9011 GMT hack to zero feature. I'm still looking fwd to the Tron, but yeah hacking seconds is preferred for setting versus movement back pressure. Back pressure does not mean a cheap movement, a few of my Pateks didn't hack. It's just a feature. Did I mention how much I love PAM01033 GMT hack to zero feature. Glad I got one PS: Accuracy is ~0.5 seconds a day.

I think it’s deceptive considering the website hasn’t changed to reflect the change in movement and no mention was made.

On a forum note: I think we should at least distinguish a name difference even if Panerai doesn’t. This will go a long way to avoid future confusion. Perhaps a “Gen 1 P.9010” and “Gen 2 P.9010”? |

My question is how much in manufacturing dollars and cents would this save Panerai? Is omitting this important feature on such an expensive watch really saving that much on manufacturing costs? I think feature wise, it's a significant thing to remove. So...why?

A and B preferred, though frankly if it is a completely different movement, not just a subtle evolution, then the movement should have a different number imho.

O.k lets have a little informal poll as to what we call it.
“Gen1 p9010” and “Gen2 p9010”???? or “P9010” and “p9010b”??? Let’s keep it simple for our new members cause this is a mess now. Someone want to set up a poll? FYI, if Panerai was really naming this their way they would call it a “P.9020”. |

If no one protest, I think you should get to name it because this is your thread, news, and watch. You should get something for the aggravation.
If anyone absolutely hates the “Gen1 P.9010” and “Gen2 P.9010”. Tonight would be the time to protest. Thank goodness we are not using a comic book name. |

The document is not updated to reflect the 9010 changes. The one you posted is what used to be the case and is still advertised on Panerai's website.
In the new version, gen2 if you will, the seconds hand does not stop/hack at all when the crown is pulled out. |

I emailed the concierge US Panerai department to see if this is true.
I cannot imagine they would change functionality of the movement without alternating the model number of the movement. That makes zero sense. That being said... They have a gen 1 PAM1312 and a gen 2 PAM1312, so anything is possible. Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk |

If we are going to choose a comic book name, then only Mystique from X-Men will do!
