Just got back from the pre order, networks were totally slammed! Took forever to get the order processed, what a complete goat rope. And, the white version is not for sale yet and may not be for quite some time.

In the end I ordered a black 16gig but it took an hour standing at the register before the network could process the order.

You get your news from all the wrong places mate.
Apple's site is not immune to this either, as their site is down.

Not able to get my pre-order done through apple.com. Servers way overloaded. Tried calling 1-800-MY APPLE. Can't get through. Very frustrating. Too be expected though. Guess I'll try later.

I was able to reserve a phone to pick up at my local Apple store on the 24th.
Ended up getting the 32GB Black model
Woke up this AM (around 7:30 EST) and there was a bunch of you-tube videos relating to the server back-ups of both Apple and AT&T. Good thing I didn't stay up last night lol
I ended up putting my reservation in around 8AM, EST.

Without going into too much detail... during one hour, the average number of preorder attempts is in six digits. Mind boggling.

That's what is posted on Mac Rumors.

I was planning to goto Best Buy and order mine, but I hear that they are having issues connecting to AT&T for verification.

Got to the AT&T store at 9 when they opened. It took me until 11:30 to get my black 32gig reserved. They were having to manually process the credit card transactions and do the ordering by phone because the att system and the apple systems were having some kind of overload issue. Crazy. I wish people would fight like that to give me $300

I am ready to blow my brains out. Finally got through to a rep at 1-800-MY-APPLE. He said the systems were being updated and to call back in a few hours. Ugh!

Wow, looks like i was one of the lucky ones that ordered it at 8AM with no issues. Sucks though for everyone else. Looks like the new iPhone 4 is gonna be a BIG hit.

OK, forgive me if this is a stupid question, but why not just wait until the phone is actually released?

Today's date has been hyped for a while and it's not surprising that some folks just can't get through. Is it likely that even though the launch is 6/24, there might still not be enough iPhones available for purchase then, or even the following week?

The first part is easy.
We are men, and we are geeks.
Dweebs almost. And Apple Sheep.

And the second half... if past experience predicts future behaviour... yup. There won't be any phones left.

Seriously? Hmmm, you know I've been considering leaving T-Mobile for AT&T and the iPhone for ages but always hesitate.

I was going to wait and read more reviews of the new one and mull it over some more.....unless of course you have secret insider info that the iPhone really IS going to T-Mobile as well sometime in the near future????

Wouldn't AT&T be re-stocking if they run out right at launch?

It's not up to us... it's up to Apple to keep up with the demand, and there has always been a shortage for months and months after launch.
Look at the iPad! 2 months into it, there is a waiting list of two weeks for the darn thing.

The iPhone cost a lot less, and it is easier justified by a lot more people so I do not think it will be any better.

I wonder if there will be a shortage in the UK, from the apple stores the costs are 16GB-Ł499, 32GB-Ł599, that is on a pay and go plan, but more or less the same price as an ipad. With a 18 or 24 month contract the iphones are heavily discounted, looks like 3 carriers in the UK (O2, Vodaphone and Orange)

Wow, I had no idea about the history of shortages. That's nuts.

I'll wait until the white one comes out. I bought the very first iPhone one week after they came out, with no waiting, and no problems.... I'm in NO hurry.

Dear Apple-

Please get your crap together and make your white 16gig iPhone 4 in stock and ready to ship.

Dear AT&T and Apple-

You never saw today's goat rope coming, seriously.

thanks
Russell

True, if I do this I'd want the white one too so I guess I'm not in a rush either!

I just hate to see what the lines are gonna be like next Thursday at the Apple store.
If I knew I was going to be home all day long on Thursday, then I would've definitely had it shipped to my home address. But, I have to work on Thursday and I'm not taking the day off just for an iPhone (I'm a tech. geek, but not that over board lol).

I am having mine shipped to my office. I won't be able to activate it till I get home, but it's easier for me that way.

One of my account managers spent all day trying to pre-order on-line and finally was able to get it around 7 PM CST.

I walked into Best Buy around 6 PM and pre-order one. I drove to another Best Buy and pre-order another one. No lines at either location, so I was in and out in a matter of minutes. And the reason why I went to two different Best Buys is because they only allow one pre-order per customer. I'm glad that I didn't have to deal with the frustration.

I am going to order a black Bumper and iPhone 4 Dock from the Apple Store. Orders over $50 qualify for free shipping. The Bumper is pretty cool. I usually carry my iPhone around naked in the Seidio Spring Clip holster. I am sure that Seidio will have it available soon.

Do most of you have the unlimited data plan already in place? Kind of a bummer that AT&T no longer offers it....unless it's bundled with voice and texts.
