Well, I guess you can say I'm now a believer in the HEV...or rather the design language of the Seamaster 300m.

I tried these 3 on at the SF boutique this weekend (very happily surprised that they had all of the watches I wanted to try on) and the one that I wanted came out better in person, which is always great.

Purchased from DavidSW at a good discount and I should receive it tomorrow! Incoming post should come shortly thereafter. Definitely big and chunky pieces, but I love it.

Congrats, looking forward to seeing your pics.

I really like the matte black bezel. Cool looking watches.

I'm the opposite, used to like it but now I don't. I don't have an objection to a crown at the upper left of the dial. But a crown I will never in my life have a reason to use over there just seems stupid. I get the "omega signature" thing but hey at least the cyclops on Rolex serves an actual purpose.

People always ask what it is and I explain the HEV and then until I decide to take it into an underwater decompression chamber I will never have a reason to turn it.

...though I have to add my bigger issue is with the skeleton hands they use. If they went back to sword hands I'll live with the HEV.

Both of those reasons are at least part of the reason I no longer own one.

Thanks and agree on the bezel - that's part of what drove me towards these in the first place.

I went to an Omega dealer over the weekend, as well, intent on picking up a white SMP. Ended up preferring the white dial AT. Came home to sleep on it, and found it 28% off at a grey.

I don’t think it’s under the radar at all. I think it’s highly recognisable and very blingy, especially blue and versions with gold and more so on bracelet.

If I were omega, I’d remove it from the SMP, leave it on the planet ocean and obviously the ultra deep doesn’t need it at all.

I’d also remove it from all future GMTs they make - absolute nonsense.

I owned the white dial on the SS model on rubber for several months and found that as soon as the cool weather hit and fashions changed, I no longer grabbed for it. I eventually sold it and bought the black on black rubber for year round.

Can someone explain why the HEV is on the GMT’s?

I've now had my Seamaster 300m for a little over a week and I must say, I truly like the HEV on it!!

While it doesn't afford me any added benefit, I do love the look of the rose gold HEV and see how it is an essential part of the Seamaster design language. I've sat here and covered it up with a finger or my sleeve, and can honestly say that I like the watch better with it on there.

If this was an only-watch for me, would I feel the same way? Maybe. But as part of a collection, I think the Seamaster with HEV is an absolute winner. This watch really changed my mind on the Seamaster, and Omega in general (maybe not the moon watch yet, though...).

I have grown to quite like it. For me, the HEV makes it the Bond watch. Without the extra crown you end up with another Heuer Aquaracer/Tissot Seastar/Longines Hydroconquest/Oris Aquis -- in short, just another regular dive watch. Useless you might say, but when was the last time you really needed a dive bezel to time anything?
