i assume we are talking about grey market prices, then DD40 platinum, not even close. have owned both, 5711 is flimsy compared to the DD40. Even aesthetically, I would prefer the DD40

Much easier to wear the 5711 for me.

I would really like a DD 40 Platinum for the heft and history of the President a great watch and i agree with majority who say 5711 stainless is well flimsy because it is but still an icon and very desirable ....if you had both watches one in each hand i think you would go DD....

Platinum DD unless the 5711 is an R, I'm not a fan of the nautilus in general but the R is something else.

At retail 5711...
It's just soooo special, even in gold if you like the colour for the heftier option. Much cheaper, more money to play with and enjoy left over.

But at Grey prices - it's got to be the Rolex, Platona would be my choice... I love Nautilus collection ,but not pre owned prices...
( Plus, They're already down £10-20k on last year depending on the dealer)

I wouldn’t pay PT money for an SS 5711 for starters. That said you will know your lifestyle better than anyone and whilst I personally think the Patek is a better watch it is also far a lot more fragile than the DD.

I love both watches and it would be hard for me to choose. If I had both in the collection and one had to go; I would keep the 5711. It is my favorite watch and I had one before this crazy hype.

You got to be kidding, right? DD is nowhere even close to 5711. Positively, the Patek

5711 for me, but I would prefer the RG version even more. The DD is beautiful but the domed bezel ruins it for me. I'd take the RG DD with olive dial in a heartbeat though :-)

The guys saying 5711 have you ACTUALLY tried one on? LOL

You would 100% not say that if you had a DD40 next to a 5711. It feels like a flimsy and fragile watch.

5711/R or a 5980R well thats a different story.

Absolutely agree, I'm going to guess they haven't. I passed on a SS 5711 even with a discount a few years ago (pre price increase also), was considering a white one at the time. The R models are really special though, even though there is still room for improvement with the pin sleeves and outdated clasp.

I did actually try a 5711 on, and it's perfect in every way.

I own a 5711.

I wouldn't say its fragile but certainly a watch that doesnt wear battle scars well due to its bezel and high polished surfaces.

I think people have this misconception that thin 5711 = fragile

I won't hear a word against the nail breaker clasp, haven't had to cut my nails in years, great time saver.

Haha, true..it sucks. I cringe everytime I take it off.

But it's still much more special than any Rolex. The clasp is part of the charm.

I'm sure if I was the owner of an R you wouldn't hear one complaint from me, that chocolate dial will just melt all my problems away!

For me for sure a 5711, but I am currently in the market looking for a DD because I won't pay the premium on a 5711. Unlikely you will find a 5711 at MSRP, Day date you will even get at a discount.
