Dangit, People? This is the vintage forum, there are numerous tells that it is at least mostly legit. From the bezel, to the crown to the case shape.

I see an old beat up genuine datejust with the original engine turned bezel, original crown, original 62510 bracelet with some stretch, and a typical crappy aftermarket dial.
Not sure why everyone is dismissing it so quickly. Shrugs.

The engine turned bezel to my knowledge has never been faked in any decent way - and a bunch of other stuff is telling me that the watch is likely gen - but the aftermarket dial can mean something crazy has gone on - like a water damaged movement being replaced with an eta or something. So - step one get us some shots of the engravings on the case, step two see a watch maker to pop the back off and show us hopefully a 1570.

I don't believe those screamin' fake were "experts" at all. I don't recall seeing most of them posting resourceful or helpful information in the past.

It’s interesting how many of the Datejusts from this era end up being passed off as fakes. I remember someone posting one here that he picked up at a pawn shop with the guy behind the desk insisting it was a “fake Rolex.”

I agree, have never seen, a fake engine turned bezel Datejust. Case just has that vintage wear look.

All looks positive so far but a pix of the movement would still be good to see.

Thanks for the advice regarding opening it up, yes it was just a tool from eBay/China.

I spoke to him yesterday about taking it somewhere and to someone with more expertise and so on, I’m hoping he may just take it off my hands now as I don’t want to do any damage.

One issue with opening up Rolex cases by yourself is that you usually have no way of testing waterproofness afterwards.

No, it’s not a real Rolex. We don’t really go into more detail than that.

Funny how fast all you guys disappear and tuck your tails between your legs.

I think all you guys should have your privileges removed to comment in the watch out section from here on out.

Just saying...

Apology accepted. Hoping to see him again perhaps next week or two to hand it back over and encourage him to get a pro to look at it and try and open it up - not myself.
