Basically your Rolex will be half fake with the "After market" band...the choice is yours.

To settle the argument of "is aftermarket the same as fake?", take a look here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/LADIES-18K-SS-JU...item439c1390fc That is an aftermarket bracelet. If it was fake, eBay could/would remove it. Think it's a fake? Try to get eBay to remove it.

It's semantics I guess....what percentage constitutes authentic. A non Rolex band makes the watch less than 100% authentic....whether or not one considers that fakery is up to the owner I guess. |

I totally agree that none are genuine Rolex or authentic Rolex and they absolutely lessen the re-sale value of the watch as a whole.

As far as the "crap"...........who cares if some people decide that the don't wish to spend $800 on a "Rolex" bracelet but decide to spend $100 on a non-rolex replacement bracelet??!! I mean, it is their watch..........I am sure they realize that overall value might not be as high as with the original bracelet. People get so caught up in the "Rolex" image, brand mistique, etc. If people saw the non-SEL, non-solid center link bracelet on a chinese quartz........they would say it was inferior. However, since it is "Rolex"........all the sudden it is "more balanced" or "durable enough" etc etc. Sorry, I just don't drink the kool-aid.

Wow....I didn't mean to cause such a fuss with this question. However, thanks for all the great info guys! I think I will go with the genuine Rolex bracelet.

I say it's just a watch bracelet, in the grand scheme of things it isn't that important. If you want to save money get the aftermarket.

Personally, I'd always want the same bracelet that came with the watch and would be a genuine replacement if I needed one. That's just my personal preference. I don't see anything wrong with putting an aftermarket (not replica, aftermarket) bracelet on a Rolex if you like it better than the original. It certainly doesn't make your watch fake/half fake as some seem to think. Anymore than putting an aftermarket stereo in your Porsche makes it a Volkswagon.

Correct!! I wouldn't be seen dead with any aftermarket bracelet on any of my watches.
If I can't afford the original bracelet or if the original is not available, then so be it - just stick with whatever original bracelet that has already come with the watch!!

With Rolex you know what you're getting. The aftermarket stuff varies all over the place. There is absolute junk and some nice quality. I wouldn't buy aftermarket without seeing and touching it.

I would say genuine. You wouldnt put WalMart tires on a Ferrari right?
I would spring for the original and authentic bracelet. I see a lot of older Day Dates on the bay with aftermarket Italian bracelets etc. I would not buy that watch. I will go all Rolex, or I wont go. |

I feel (my opinion is) a Rolex is only whole when it is 100% Rolex. Any aftermarket parts on a Rolex for me is not what Rolex intended.
Rolex made a statement something to the effect that each Rolex watch is a piece of art and each one is unique and I can see that in each Rolex! |

I would buy the piece of art, but the "each one is unique"?

Why don't you try Steve Mulholland first? He might be able to get you a good deal on a nice bracelet.

How would a RSC handle an aftermarket oyster bracelet that is not counterfeit with Rolex marking but obviously a copy otherwise?
Aftermarket = Not OEM Fake = has Rolex markings but is not real Aftermarket /= Fake |
