Now, I've had plenty of Rolexes and still have my Daytona, but my last purchase was an Omega as well. Largely because I could actually go to a store and try it on, negotiate, and buy it. And yes, I'm very aware that it will not hold its value like a Rolex.

And it will cost a lot less. If you buy a $500 watch and it loses $100, so what? There are a lot of great watches out there for not a lot of money, watch companies can do that when they don't have to spend millions on advertising, retail stores, and celebrity endorsement contracts. I've heard it only cost Rolex about $800 to make a Sub.

PS We do have two Rolexes in the stable.

I still think that Rolex is a great product even if the SS models have moved moved towards jewellery in recent years. Would I recommend Rolex to someone for a first time? I am not so sure. Yes for product quality but no because of all that now goes with attempting to get on. Hopefully that will change......
