Im looking into one of these, but it seems they go for a pretty penny even compared to a brand new one?! Any idea of where to start for a first vintage GMT?

One owner from new 1979 1665 Rail Dial. Never took it off.....until he sadly passed away not long ago. Bet this watch has some stories to tell!

Enjoyed so much reading and looking at those beautiful work horses, shining in spite of their battle scars!!

I wish to share my own, a 1680 which was a gift from my wife, which bought it brand new at a local AD in february 1977, as a replacement of my 5513 stolen a few days before by to armed guys.

It was my only watch for many years, and used for decades as my only watch, to work, holidays, sport scuba diving, etc., day and night as donīt take my watch off to sleep.

It got only two services at the local Official Rolex Service, circa 1992 and in 2010, never polished. Only thing replaced, gaskets, tube and crown, and the plexi. Received a complete cleaning and oiling, of course.
The only cosmetic treatment was done by myself, a bit of nylon pencil passes on the bracelet.
The bezel has turned grey, and got a small hole at 14/15 minutes.
Love this watch!!

Best cordial regards, Abel.
Abel that watch is stunning!

This one is on the way in, not a Rolex....but an all original 7021 Tudor. Seller said that he bought it new in 1971, looks like it had a rough life (will get better pictures once it is here).

As my buddy Paul said....looks like a dog has been chewing on it.

Finally arrived....looks pretty good once you look past the really beat crystal! The blue dial, hands, and 'ghost" fat font insert are in excellent condition....even came on an original riveted bracelet. A good movement service and a new crystal is all it needs.
