5208 has my vote but I think it should only come with its cousin the 5216! They look the same but we must get a non-chronograph and while we're at it we might as well throw a tourbillon in the trio! We would get that base covered and we would have a gold watch!

Now am I the only one who starts to get this thing a bit too seriously?

Nice Ken, However I think I'm starting to like the 5960P with the blue dial however.

Although this rare 1991 3970R 2nd series with solid back, large hallmark lugs, early dial and leaf hands is on my hit list! If you could find one Paul it should be on yours!

Yes Reis has or had one just a couple of weeks ago. I actually saw it in person for the first time in St Thomas a little over a month ago.

Super nice--super rare and super expensive!! Very hard to find early dial with square markers, leaf hands, large hallmark engraved lugs, solid back, tang buckle etc. Very few made like that vs. the much more common 3rd series which is still fantastic.

How often do they discontinue their chronograph models, seems like they do this fairly often?

Hard to say exactly Dan. Certain ones are highly collectible and much desired like this one as there were so few made like this. This one in my example above ran for a year or so only while the 2nd series ran from 1986 to 1991. The 3970 replaced the 2499 which ran from 1951 to 1986. The 3970 ran from 1986 to 2004 consisting of 3 series and the 3971. So-- they had long runs with certain series being extremely collectible and others far more readily available in the 3970.

Google John Reardon Patek Books and you will see several.

They aren't cheap--$350 or so a piece. You buy them and when you tire of them you can send my way!

There are actually some Rolex books out there for much more.

In a way these could be considered reasonable.

With all due respect and as much as I love a gold watch with a black band I believe this model looks even better with the original gray dial/brown band! Still, this one is marvelous!

So, gentlemen, we're up to two watches so far in our ultimate list. What shall we take as a third one? Ken's chronograph with perpetual calendar and moonphase? This one I've just quoted? A non chronograph?

Refresh my memory, which ones have we decided so far.

Acvtually I was thinking about a Patek Pocket watch for the third one.

In know it's old fashioned but I do kind of like that Star Caliber.

Good grief, why didn't we think about such a lovely piece?

Alright, let's see, do we have an okay from Paul?

#1: Patek Philippe 5208P

#2: Patek Philippe 5216R

#3: Patek Philippe Star Caliber 2000

Beautiful.

One question, can we think about making it 6 watches instead of just 3?
