I am a mechanical moron so I have absolutely no knowledge of appropriate service intervals. I will tell you that when in Vegas over Christmas I visited dozens of high end watch stores. One salesman was wearing his father's Rolex. He said it had not been serviced in over 40 years. I think it was a Datejust. Another salesman at a different store (in Venetian) was wearing a Fat Lady GMT said it had not been serviced since purchased in1989. No bragging on their part, just mentioned it after I asked.
Is this possible? |

A watchmaker told me as long as the watch is keeping good time, leave it alone. That advice has proven to be true in my experience.

Hmmm, car analogy is silly.
When was the last time your fridge or washing machine was serviced?

It all depends on the use, abuse, and misuse. I have a rep I purchased 9 years ago with an ETA 2836 movement still keeping decent time, and since I only paid $300 for it, it will never get serviced. If you go easy on it, I don't see why 7 year intervals would hurt anything.

Great story. Wear it in good health! I also consider this to be partial testament in favor of winders. Movements are meant to be moving.

That is a factor many have not picked up on....??? It is another touchy subject.
I failed to mention,.. I sprinkle unicorn horn over all my watches while chanting "hail to the Swiss" every morning. Sure it takes a extra 10 minutes out of my day but I think its worth it. |

I forgot to include who did my service and what was replaced......
My service was done by Rikki. Anyone that knows Rikki's work, knows his work is outstanding. Rikki did all the seals and replaced the mainspring and axel. He has regulated it to +1.56 in all 6 resting positions. Rikki replaced my Serti dial to the original classic blue dial. This will give me a whole new look and the feel of a new watch. It's also nice to have a watch maker of his experience describe the watch as in immaculate condition. It will be in the mail shortly on its way back to my wrist. I had him do a new insurance appraisal an to document its work, condition, etc.... There is a peace of mind when you know who is working on your watch instead of a nameless factory repair person. Here is his info.... http://www.timecareinc.com/index.html |
