You can nab a pre-owned Platinum President for around 30k...

Not sure what your build is but its hard to go wrong with platinum and I doubt you'd take if off your wrist once you put it on:)

Makes a nice daily wearer too from what I can gather (don't have the privilege of owning one :( )

Hmm for me it would be one Patek Nautilus 5711 vs AP RO 15300, Rolex Sub, and Rolex Daytona. Tough but I think I would take the latter.

Ok bad comparison .. Worked 16hrs today I'm tired so don't hate me

Buy the piece or pieces you'd love to wear on a daily/regular basis....

While I have multiple watches, I think I'd rather buy a "grail" than having a bunch of watches. Can't wear them all at once anyway.

I have one WG watch and 5 SS. I like to mix them up. But the idea of cashing them all in for a Platinum Day Date II has crossed my mind. Numerous times.

I would spend 75-80% on a gently pre loved WG Sub or WG PepC (eventually there will be one ) and the balance on a gently pre loved Sub C.

This is really a puzzling issue for me too . I would love to buy SKY DWELLER but for that price I can easily buy SEA DWELLER+YATCHMASTER or DATEJUST II + SEA DWELLER + can squeeze a SS DAYTONA
Alternatively, buying a BREGUET MARINE ROYALE instead however if you think of resale value Rolex should hold better
I believe either choice is good , it's like buying a W222 S CLASS MB for that money you can buy W212+W205 .

My last 3 have been 12K, 21K, 11K so for me it would probably be something of that type. My next will be a basic AP RO so around 13K second hand, I think there is a lot to be found in that bracket unless you are always about new in which case Gold is going to be at top end of budget.

We're just shootin' the breeze really, because just about all of us on here are watch junkies and either have more than one or aspire to having more than one.
Doesn't mean we all want a dozen, but we do like watches and so there's always one more that we want.
I think 3 is about the ideal practical number, but that leaves lots of beautiful watches out there...

I have to agree with this. Once I finally found the nerve to drop $30k plus on a 116509 Slate/Arabic Daytona on bracelet my SS 116520 just sits in the safe. They may look similar aside from the bezel and dial and they both tell time, but that is where the similarities stop. The weight, and texture of the white gold is just so much different. My 116520 feels flimsy next to it which I never could picture myself saying before. I also prefer the color of WG. It has a warmer yellow tinge to it which is only noticeable when it is next to the SS model.

Out of my 116610LN, 116509, and 116520 the gold wins every time.

If you absolutely must spend the total, maybe a AP RO instead of the GMT.

I'd stretch the budget to 40k and get a WG SkyD (on strap) and an SD4000.

I would have at least one daily/work SS and one nice grail.

I'm actually tempted in trading my newly acquired BLNR and DJ to get the WG Submariner... hmmm decisions decisions.

If you know exactly what you want then one is fine, I suppose. If you're like me (you poor bastard) then you have to try different brands and models for a while, flip them, try more, rebuy some of those you flipped, then forget which 30K piece you wanted to start with...........

The only difference in most of the Rolex line is the type of metal and style of the case.Myself not a gold or diamond watch person and two or three or more watches are better than one.

I personally have found that i like having multiple pieces to choose from to wear. And I also have found that there are some pieces i keep and others i wear and then sell or trade. Because i cannot afford multiple high dollar watches, like you were presenting ($20-30K), i stick within the lower dollar range. It seems that if one wants to sell, trade or flip, it is also easier to find buyers in the lower price range, than the higher.

I have pretty close to $30k in my Rolex watches, plus whatever I've spent on my "lesser" watches.

I like steel and it's a good thing, because I couldn't imagine having only one precious metal Rolex, instead of the four steel models I now have.

This subject seems to come up quite often around here. I think our love of watches always tempts us to want more. I currently own 2 Rolexes but basically wear one all the time. So that tells me I'm more of a one watch kind of guy even though I still want to get another one. I could probably get a WG Sub and call it a day if I had that kind of budget however I do like having another watch to fall back on.
