Just do it!

Good advice ; )

I've worked here in the North Sea for over 18 years and been entertaining this idea for awhile now. The weather here in the winter is quit bad; so I might have to wait until spring to do this.
This weekend we are forecast to have 38 ft waves and 100 knot wind gusts (115mph).

Do it! Have it checked beforehand, and make sure your insurance is up to date!

That's a brilliant idea and would make an article in watch mags too
Since stakes are minimum for losing the watch or almost zero then go for it

Just pray the ROV does not go AWOL. I have known two do this in the 20 plus years i have worked offshore, so probably an acceptable risk.
I will have my DSSD with me when i go offshore on Monday. Not sure if I will have the ROV guys put mine down though.

Yes I've heard of ROV's disappearing too :(
But it's usually the small ones. This would be strapped to one of the newer style big ROV's.
But there's risk in everything, just not much in this case......I hope : )

As long as you are sure the watch would not be lost, go for it! I would like to see the pictures.

I would see first is loss or damage would be covered under your Insurance policy. If it is then I would go for it. If it isnt there's no way I would risk it then. YMMV

I'd sooner strap myself to the ROV and get a Fremstar point, if I was still conscious by the time I got to the seabed. I might also get a shot of Spongebob Squarepants while I'm down there.

Of course, it's your watch and what you do with it is your decision, but I'm always leery of those who are so cavalier when it comes to their watches, or the watches of others, because they are insured.

The one thing that insurance can never do is replace the watch that is lost, damaged, or stolen on any given escapade. If something did happen to the watch, then the watch that accompanied you through so many years would be gone and you'd have a replacement watch that, while new perhaps, has no history relative your own experience.

Maybe a vacation scuba diving in the tropics would be better.

1. IF NO chance of watching becoming detached, then go for it.

2. Would you want to do a pressure test just incase seals not 100%?

If it implodes and you get it on videotape I'm sure you could crowd-source funds on this forum to get a replacement.

Is there any update from the OP on this and whether we are all systems go on this one?
I think we are all looking forward to seeing the photos of this.

As long as pressure tests are done and insurance is up to date I say go for it.
I understand Grady's point too about the possibility of losing your personal watch but these are the risks you choose to take in the name of TRF Science! It's a calculated risk.
