I was going to comment, but then I read the two pages of replies...I think the point has been made.

Agree with those who have suggested that you buy yourself (or her for a wedding day present) a Rolex in addition. I did the same thing many years ago, that's when the madness began...

You are marrying her what do you think she would like?

My advice is you are marrying her what do you really think she would like.

Don't give her what you want. Give her what you think she would like.

If you really don't know ask her (find out from her).

Don't wast you money buying her things she will not appreciate the value of.

Had a similar discussion with my gf if things go that far. She's not a diamond girl... I would say negative unless you know for sure.

What's crazy is to buy your GF something that will be worth half of what you pay the day after you give it to her! BUT, we've all done it, and unless you know for sure, stick with the ring. Best of luck to you!

This was easily the funniest thing I have read on trf to date.

Good thing you asked. Next time you are going to do something in the relationship that seems questionable, ask us again

I have learned that if I think something is a good idea when it comes to relationships, I should do the complete opposite. I call it the George Costanza philosophy.

I'll advise you to do the diamond ring! In the future you will be glad you did.

Grams family ring is probably a beauty and that sounds like a great plan but I'm not sure if you have grasped the relationship between a bride to be and HER engagement ring?

Priceless thread BTW.

I wouldn't, but I slipped a gift to my wife on the actual wedding day just before the ceremony, a rolex would would be quite the surprise I would imagine!
