I really don't like diamonds on the dial and the royal oak in gold is stunning.

I'd choose the AP

I don't know sh!t about AP, but I do know that particular DD is absolutely stunning. So the uneducated watch guy here says stick with the DD

Speaking from my experience only, I have generally not had good results from flipping a watch that I like.

If, however, the AP fits your mind's eye as the new "emperor" of your collection, then that's another story.

EDIT: Just saw the new AP. Stunning, congrats!

I wouldn't trade as my preference would be the Rolex.

I am a Rolex guy, but I absolutely love my 15400. Having said that, your daydate is beautiful. I don't think I could give it up.

if it were my wrist (and your money) I would definitely go for the AP. To quote a gentleman who admired my watch (not an AP) a few years ago, "Them joints be scandalous!"

I've been away from here way to long.
My comeback post is obviously towards my good and longtime dear friend (TRF has been the start of a wonderful friendship).
Now lets talk watches, Rolex is mostly and frequently the good choice! So many qualities to name, that I don't have to do it again and certainly not on this forum where the watch brand has correctly so so many 'fans' (myself included).
Thing is, as a watchlover and watchcollector one will one day come to a point where you want to explore further. AP rang my bell. I love the history of the brand, the connection with the original family is certainly a + for me. The movement runs so smooth and the Gerald Genta design of the Royal Oak, well I can't get over this already classic and stunning design. (and I didn't start talking about the wonderful, comfortable bracelet yet!)
For myself all that translated in buying myself an AP Royal Oak Offshore Diver (new version) last year. I haven't regret it a single moment. I love that watch.

As friends do, who share same passions... I took that new AP Diver to show RJ what I bought and why. So glad he agreed with my opinion, which resulted in this beautiful new addition to his stunning watchcollection.
I can't be more happy about it, one thing will be certain and clear. I'll wear it next time I'm visiting buddy

HUGE CONGRATULATIONS

Looks like you made the trade OP. Did you change your mind on the dial for the AP?

Seems you like full yellow gold watches. If that was my thing now, and I was limited to the two options you’ve shortlisted, I’d keep the Rolex.

- AP service costs are much higher than Rolex even for a simple time only piece.
- the AP bracelet will emphasise dings and deep scratches more (I’m sure you wer your watches carefully)
- The Day Date is iconically a yellow gold watch whereas the AP Royal Oak is iconically a steel watch.

Just my opinion...

Ah, i see you already did a deal. Congratulations on your new purchase. Hope it meets your expectations!
