Absolutely! A GMT with Rolex’s most advanced movement, vs a chrono, which is based on the El Primero movement. Date or no date, what do you want?

I have an updated Speedy, with date at 6- a column wheel, vertical clutch chronograph, co-axial movement, sapphire back, accurate to less than a second a day. WR to 50 meters... and the pushers don’t need to be unscrewed! That’s all the chrono I need.

YMMV

No bother at all with my Daytona - between cell phones and computers I always have the date in front of me.

I am not much on a date function. Its fine but many watches actually look better and more balanced without a date window. As the date is everywhere, the function is really not needed as it was before the cell phone era.

Sky Dweller is Rolex's best watch from a movement perspective.

But if you really want a chrono w/a date, look at the gold standard of chronos: Zenith El Primero. Best chrono movement bar none.

I hate to sound even remotely "snobby" but I subscribe to the notion that people that buy nice watches really just want a nice piece of jewelry to wear. I'd wager to say that this applies even moreso to people looking in the Daytona price range. The "superlative chronometer" isn't exactly my first thought when looking for an $40k watch :) My 116503 isn't even wound up half the time I wear it, why would a date matter?

Rolex Daytona - does this bother anyone??

Lack of date definitely bothers me. I would go SkyD if I were you.

One could say the same about the time. The mobile phone is not the reason the date function on a watch is not important to me.

But we want nice things. Rolexes are nice watches. Its really that simple I think.

100% spot on. Many who buy Rolex don't know much about other watches and what they offer. They may have heard about Seiko or Omega, excellent watch companies mind you. Many buy Rolex exclusively for the status symbol. That's all they care about. It's been like that in Italy and the USA for as long as I can remember and I'm sure in many other parts of the world.

I don't think it is that much of a deal breaker not having a date. Most will buy a Daytona for the prestige, having that quintessential Rolex that frankly is for flexing, investment and enjoyment. No one really uses it for timing or telling the date.

Your phone will do that for you and even better then the DT will.

I never liked watches with the date much. If I don't use them for a while, I have 2 things to set, and I can check the date and the calendar on my phone easily.

I use a date function and frequently use a reference time zone. Of the two under consideration, this makes the Sky Dweller my default choice. If I ever buy a PM Rolex it will be either a GMT Master, or a Sky Dweller.

But it's really up to you. Your choice, your money, your watch.

These are such dramatically different watches (complications, size, intended use, etc.), that I am not sure they are typically cross-shopped- at least not as "only watches". What other watches do you own?

If your wrist size or aesthetic taste is such that you have no size preference so either watch "fits" then that's not an issue. Some good advice in this thread already, but to add my 2-cents, it seems like you would find a date complication more useful than a chronograph. So there's your answer.

I, for one, could not live without a date function as my daily-driver (think "work watch"), and all my work-a-day watches have a date complication. That said, probably like many (even most) people on the forum, I will often wear a different watch on weekends, evenings, etc., and have and both date and no-date watches (w & w/o chrono) for those times.

I much prefer chronographs without dates, especially don't like a 4 o'clock date window. Some are more palatable than others (Navitimer for example because the dial is already crowded with a bunch of numbers and scales so the date kinda blends in)...but I would still always prefer without. The only exception I can think of where the date actually compliments the design of a chrono would be the ALS Dat-o-Graph.

For me personally, I can't think anything worse that Rolex could do to the Daytona than add a date. Symmetry is an important part of the design.

When I retire ... Date does not matter.
It could be Feb 30 everyday for all I care.

Just enjoy and cherish the simple things in life with my family and my Daytona.

I prefer a date function. But I’m okay having no date on a Daytona

I will check it occasionally to see the date and then check the phone or computer instead. It happens but isn't really an issue. On vacation I prefer to not know the date.
