However, since it is locked, you would not be able to use it unless you jailbreak the phone first. I'd want to use an el cheapo phone when I travel, not some expensive, highly desirable, theft prone device. (which I do)

Honestly... for work... I use a BlackBerry simply due to the fact that it is an email first device so it is the first thing you see on your home screen. It eliminates the need to click on email... box... etc. With that being said, I can type twice as fast on the iPhone, more accurately (especially now that 3.0 does landscape keyboard) and the whole BlackBerry experience seems quite archaic by comparison. Attempting to compare any other features between the two of them is just about pointless since the iPhone simply takes browsing the web, music, movies and entertainment in general to a whole new level that other devices are just now starting to dream of. I'm almost considering ditching the Bold and using two iPhones.

OMG, I am dead I placed a pre-order for an iPhone 3G S 16GB via apple.com. It will be shipped to me on 6/19. Apple guarantees shipment on 6/19 where as AT&T does not. Looks like my blackberry curve 8900 is going back. It took me a few days to actually pull the trigger. I said what the heck. Wish me luck boys and girls.

So I called AT&T to see if I qualified. I do have the 3G iPhone. They said that I do not qualify until July 23rd, 2009. This is unfortunate as I stood in line for the release of the 3g, but since they ran out of stock had to wait almost 3 weeks to get it as I ordered one on the spot. I wish there was something I could do as I am not that far off from being eligible, but the fact that I had to wait 3 weeks to get the 3G pushed it back for me. I really would like to get the new iPhone ASAP as things are about to get really hectic, but I also don't want to spend the additional bit of money for it. I am a corporate customer, with unlimited minutes, unlimited data, and unlimited texts, so I think that I have definitely paid my fair share to AT&T. I've been very happy with them thus far, just want the new phone.

3.0 is most of the new iPhone. Minus double RAM, faster processor, video, etc

Yeah, I know. But I can be impatient about certain things. Apple products are one and watches are the other.

I am uploading 3.0 to my server right now.
If I can figure out how to post the link to it, you can all have 3.0 shortly.

How do you like Safari 4, Chip? I love it. So fast and what a major improvement, in my opinion.

save to your hard drive. open iTunes. on a Mac, click Alt+Restore in iTunes and a window will open. select the file above and click ok. On a PC, Shift + Restore in iTunes and a window will open. select the file above and click ok. this is the official, Gold Master, final release. It will not void your warranty or hack your phone.

Yup.
I have worked for AT&T Mobility for 13 years. Some perks do come my way. In 07, I was involved in the first launch and I went to Cupertino. Got to see the iPhone in flesh before release date. they gave me a black T-shirt that says "I visited the mothership" and it has the Apple logo on it. LOL. Talk about a conversation starter!!!

Are you running it on the 3G or the 3GS? And how stable is it? And I'm jealous of your t-shirt.

Thanks for the iPhone welcome guys.
Will the 3.0 software be on the new 3G S? Now I will need to figure out how to transfer all my info from my BlackBerry to the iPhone. I use the BlackBerry desktop software to back-up and restore. I wonder if I can transfer that file to my new iPhone when I receive it?

by the way, Safari tends to download that as a ZIP file. (just tested it) If you are using Safari, delete the .zip extension while it is downloading and leave it as ipsw. Right click on the file on your desktop while it is downloading, get info, and remove dot zip. If it unzips, it's no good and and has to be downloaded again.
