As someone who is waiting for their first full YG piece this thread has been very enjoyable. I told myself if I’m spending gold watch money, then I’m wearing it! What’s the point having a special piece if it’s going to sit in a box.

i don't feel comfortable wearing full yg in short sleeves anymore. maybe it's just paranoia from how bad things have been the last few years but i prefer to be able to cover up my watch in most places these days

it's still something that can be worn daily but i think the idea of thinking it's fine because no one says anything is dangerous because i definitely see a lot of people looking and noticing but have never had anyone say something

I've got two full gold watches - one is a DD in yellow and the other a Cartier in rose. People rarely notice the Cartier (it is a bit more subtle) and rarely does anyone say anything about the Day-Date, but I've definitely caught people looking. Every so often someone will ask me "What kind of watch is that" or the dreaded "What did that cost" which I will answer playfully with "more than it should have". But in general, people don't notice it. In certain neighborhoods and on nighttime dog walks, I do generally take them off.

And the most important part, may I add - I absolutely love them and get joy wearing them every day.

I understand well what you are mentioning here. When I’m asked about a cost of anything, specially people I don’t know, strangers, my I answer is: “I don’t know, it was a gift.” If it’s someone I know, and I’m friendly with, I might say :”A lot!”.

But a plain answer, “Sorry, but my parents told me not to talk about money and’s business politics.”

One recent comment on a biz related trip overseas, a whole week, an individual kept commenting (to all companion travelers), on my Ferragamo leather tennis shoes: “Those are expensive tennis shoes!”, on my DD-Rose gold, similarly, “That’s high roller watch!”.

At one point I answered in front of the group: “You know so and so, the benefits of not having kids to support provides for a lot of extras, but having two businesses and working all the time helps too.”

Did any of you find it too much and maybe downgraded to two-tone? Or supplement your full gold bracelet model with a leather/rubber strap to tone it down?

By full gold do you mean yellow gold?

Wearing an 18ct yellow gold watch is quite different to wearing an 18ct white gold watch.

I love my WG Daytona. I feel I could wear it pretty much anywhere. Yellow gold, on the other hand is not for me.

So if yellow gold is the loudest and white gold is the most covert, where does Rose-gold/Everose fit into the equation??

I don't own one but it seems to me a solid gold bracelet is the thing that gets noticed more than the watch. So I think if I ever buy a full YG or even RG piece I would prefer it on a leather or rubber strap. Sort of balances the look between over the top gold flash, and understanged sports watches.

I think I agree with this. Going from a 5-digit two-tone to a 6-digit full gold... night & day difference in sheer heft. I know it's a bit apples to oranges, but the wrist presence to the wearer (me) is vastly significant. I'm not a YG fan, so my next will be a PT or WG DD36.

I have been fortunate enough to try TT, WG, RG and Platinum Rolexes. I didn’t try YG because I knew it wasn’t for me.

TT - flashy, after I was able to access to full gold it lost relevance, no longer felt special, it felt like a compromise. It was one of my first purchases with Rolex.

RG - Blends in with my skin, looks great, feels very special. At times I did feel self conscious.

Plat - awesome but far too heavy… it was silly but I loved the lustre and knowing it was Plat.

WG - Initially when I began my journey we watches I thought it was the dumbest choice. Why colour gold white… Now for me it’s the best option. It’s special to me but I never feel self conscious wearing it. I really like it paired with oysterflex. It’s understated but special.

I have a 36 mm YG DD with champagne dial which I wear everyday. I never bought it to fly under the radar.

I do not own a full gold sports watch, but if I were to buy / wear / want (I might) a Yellow Gold sports watch, this one would be at the top of my list … wowza …

I recently got a YG DD40. It’s the best. I love how it shines and weighs. I don’t give a f what others think. Its beautiful to me and that’s all that matters to me. Once you go YG can’t go back to SS. Just a whole different experience.
