The Explorer 14270 with full LUME job and now with Jubilee with appropriate end links. I think it actually looks better. The polished/matte contrast of the jubilee goes really well with the case of the 14270.
In a weird way it feels as if the jubilee makes the watch come at you more and making the watch appear bigger than the 36mm that it is. |

Strap Size for 214270 39mm
Can anyone help with strap measurements (lug width) for new Explorer 1? 2016 - 214270.
I don't want to guess and would appreciate any help. |

TRF Explorer I Club Thread
I've been lucky to enjoy three different Explorer I models, here are the other two:
14270 -bought from the original owner, cool to see the complete older set of box and papers -loved the 3,6,9 dial with the white application -this one even had the hollow end links which had a vintage charm 214270, 2010 -the newer bracelet with SELs gave it that Rolex Sport feel - 3,6,9 white gold indices had a dressier feel. Looked great and have their own "flash" -hands are fine. I could always tell the time -this case is NOT watch strap friendly. I will take bites out of anything but the thinnest strap. Look close at the strap pic and you'll see the laceration. |

Curved spring bars are an option, but are a possible recipe for disaster. If you haven't had your curved bar incident consider yourself lucky. I'm having flashbacks....anxiety.... I'll opt for a one piece strap (never moving it if leather) nylon NATO or on the bracelet as Has Wilsdorf intended. |

Oh oh. I was nervous about them. Haven't had an incident yet, though I do feel far safer with them on a one piece strap. Recently I even made my own. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Congrats on making your own straps!!! I'll chat off the thread. I have the gear, but haven't done it yet. I'm actually a watch strap collector and watch enthusiast. The watches change, straps stick around. |

New 214720 Purchase
Got it from AD Brinkhaus in Calgary, Canada last weekend. Excellent experience. Thanks for the great knowledge pool and insight from TRF community. Love the balance of the new lume number markers and the change to the handset. Wears very comfortably and super positive about this first Rolex in my collection.

Having just purchased a 114060 and going through this thread I am kicking myself for not getting the 214270. I guess I will be trading my 114060 for the new 2016 explorer now.

Just purchased a new 214270 "old" model. Am I correct that the only difference between this and the "new" late 2016 model are the hand sizes and the number lume? I understand that the case, movement, and bracelet are the same. Is this correct?
By the way I love the watch. Seems to wear better on my wrist than my Sea Dweller. |

Yes. That's my understanding. Same movement, same case, same dial and same bracelet. I have the 2010 model too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Here is a good article comparing the 2010 and 2016 models. Also, some cool history on the Explorer.

Tried one on the other day and can't believe how hot of a watch it is. The new size is really perfect and one of the Best Buy's in the Rolex line
