Not really a bad but a cute typo with a humorous response to it; I hope your niece likes the watch.

I have been obsessing over the 42 mm Explorer II for six months. After flirting hard with the Sub no date, Explorer I and the Milgauß, I am certain the Explorer II is the one I want. No doubt about it.

But good God I can't decide between the white and the black. By itself I lean toward the white, but when I see a picture on the wrist I lean slightly toward the black. I really wish getting both was an option.

Like all watches the Explorer II looks better on the wrist, but for some reason when you see someone wearing an Explorer II with jeans it looks 50 times cooler. I think it's the ultimate casual Rollie.

I lost this watch in a burglary...
I'm still smarting from the loss...
I had the white dial, it was a brilliant watch.
Maybe next time I would go the black dial.

Do you really need being able to read a 3rd time zone? Need the PCL's?

I'm in the same boat between the GMT and EXP II... the difference between the two is the GMT can have the GMT hand set to my home time and I can quick set the hour hand to the time zone I am in. With the EXP II I would quick set the GMT hand to the local time zone and the hour hand remain set to my home time, which makes it a bit awkward for reading at a glance when travelling.

In other words, for me, who changes time zones frequently, the 116710 hour hand quick set seems much more intuitive, but I suppose I could get used to reading the orange hand when travelling... hoping I would not forget and end up reading my home time by accident (with jet lag, and all).

It may not seem like a big deal, but for someone buying a watch specifically for time zone functionality it is kind of important to think through the implications.

I'm confused...why not set the GMT hand to home time and use the quick-setting hour hand for local time wherever you are traveling?

Truthfully, both will work for frequent travelers...the GMT has a leg up on functionality with the ability to quickly read three time zones...but if you set the GMT to Zulu on either watch, and do some quick math you can read the timezone anywhere and don't necessarily need a rotating bezel.

I have the Explorer II. The orange hand always points to the time at home. I adjust the hour hand to show the time at current location.

This is what I am trying to confirm (and what you propose above is what I am wanting to do)... BUT... I thought the EXP II 'quickset' worked with the GMT hand... it will move at 1 hour increments independent of any of the other hands. I thought with the EXP II to move the hour hand forward one has to rotate the minute hand through the full hour vs. the hour hand moving independent of the minute hand.

With the 116710 GMT watch the hour hand can be moved in hour increments independent of the minute hand.

Am I understanding things incorrectly here?

On the EXPII the quickset works with the hour hand, NOT the GMT hand. I love this feature. For my preference, GMT is always pointing to home time. When I travel I simply jump the hour hand to local time.

There is no "wrong" way to set your GMT hand.

For my needs, I set my GMT hand the East Coast -- because that's where my business is located. I live on the West Coast, and set my hour hand to whatever time zone I'm in.

I hop timezones nearly every week, but I find it easier (for me) to do the base math from the GMT hand that matters the most for me.

Thank you for the clarification... this fact may be swaying me back towards the EXP II.

For me the issue is one of aesthetics, function, and the fact that I always thought I wanted a 16710. The problem is every 16710 or 116710LN I've tried on never got me excited. The BLNR, yes and to my sooooprise, the new exp ii. Went to try on an LN again recently and my wife says how about this? Sooooo I tried it on and it looked right. It was everything I think a "tool" watch should be. No ceramic to crack, psl's to scratch, nothing. Just pure old school Rolex. Now if I can only get past the GMT mental block I can pull the trigger...... oh and since I won't pay anywhere near full price for anything, a blnr is out for now.....

It's pure perfection. Wear mine daily, touch as nails, a true tool watch IMHO. Flies under the radar. And looks amazing in polar. As comfortable as my old 2254.50 which never left my wrist for 12-years.
