Submariner, no doubt
Sub Date is not the real deal

LIke my preference for most watches
No date.

Travel watch/gmt = date required.
Diver or chrono, date is a non starter.

Had both, Date. The cyclops is what makes it a Rolex to me. I liked the way the submariner looked, but it didn’t feel as special.

I chose the no date. Like the symmetry of the dial and not having to set the date after it sits in the box for a few days. I do have other watches with dates, but preferred the no date on this one.

I have both, but I don't know which one is better. Perhaps the one without a date is more beautiful because it is symmetrical and simpler.

4 year old thread. It’s funny how my view has evolved. I prefer the Submariner (no date), but if I were getting a blue dial, two tone Sub, it would look sort of silly without a date.

When I became aware of Rolex the yuppies were ascendant and the Submariner Date along with the 320i were their calling cards. My super-cool broke friends and I all thought that a date on a dive watch was stupid because nobody needs to check the date underwater and we all felt very self-righteous for knowing this. I’m no longer super-cool or broke and my judgements have faded. I personally prefer the lack of a cyclops on a Sub but enjoy the small date on the DSSD. Most of my collection are dive watches and I don’t dive other than snorkeling on the occasional tropical vacation. I am humbled by how harshly I would’ve judged myself.

My preference is no date primarily since it’s easier to rotate no date watches. Just wind a few turns, set the time and go.

I’m still going with “no date”.

It’s one of the only Rolex professional references that is available in one configuration and that makes it somewhat unique (to me).

That, and it just looks better to my eye

As a diver I appreciate the simplicity of the not having a date wheel much less the cyclops however iconic the cyclops is. It's Sub all the way for me = don't need a date underwater and I like to dive with my watches.

The Submariner.

This is the original, and was not offered with the date complication when it was first introduced.

I am still torn - I have a no date 114060 but I feel the Sub date would be the better option for me. I am now toying with the idea of picking up a 5 digit sub date.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't

The cyclops is what always made Rolexes stand out, so for me it’s with the date.

I love both the date and ND versions of the Submariner but have chosen the ND version. I like the balance of the dial.

They both look great, absolute icons… it just comes down to taste… but if I was forced to pick a preference then I’d go no date… just the symmetry and simplicity of the dial gives it the edge… but it’s a difficult choice… like asking which of your kids do you like the most!

Mine is with the date, however I prefer the variant without aesthetically. Just cool and classic. Really miss my 16600 for this. It had a date, but no cyclops made it look much more symmetric.

Have owned both. Love both. But something about a simple no date is just perfect.

I always bring my girlfriend into these threads to illustrate what the cyclops does to beauty.

I prefer the no date version. At its core, its a go anywhere tool watch and I find setting the date every time i want to give some wrist time a major PITA.

That being said, ive got other watches with date complications. My SD43, GMTs, and DJ41 for example but to be honest they dont see the wrist time that my 214270 mkii and 114060 do.

Call me lazy but if i need a date, im wearing a G Shock for the most part

I like the date on an LV or LB, but for all black? Submariner is the way to go!

I don't like the cyclops so I can't have a Sub with a date.
