Is it safe to assume Rolex never made a double (wide) banded all diamond Presidential watch?

Back in 1996 a year or so before he was shot Biggie bought a $200K+ Lambo or Ferrari from a friend of mine when he owned a dealership in Atlanta. He didn't have the entire amount and wanted my friend to take his Rolex as partial payment, so he did. Now 12+ years later my friend called me and said I got this all diamond watch owned by some rap guy named Chris Wallace that I took on a car I sold him and was wondering if you knew of anyone who may want to buy it. He had and still has no clue who Chris Wallace aka Notorious Big was. Biggie told him the watch cost him around $125K or so, however that is not what he got credit for on the car.

I assume this would have been a custom made piece by a jeweler? It has 3 carats worth of diamonds around the face and close to 8-10 carats around the band? He would like to sell it, but I guess the market would be to the hip-hop industry or pro athletes, not your typical fortune 500 CEO?

I'll try to get some pictures of it in the next day or so...
Sounds like it may have been customized outside of the Rolex network. Usually, aftermarket work done on a Rolex has a detrimental effect on the watches resale value. However, if you can prove to a potential customer that it is indeed Chris Wallace's (aka Biggie) Rolex, that could have a very good effect on the price. Im guessing your target market would be in the Hip-Hop world, maybe an up and commer that was inspired by Notorious B.I.G. That would be your perfect customer. Best of luck in either event.

it will go to a collector if he has a undeniable paper trail on it. it will bring at least twice what he has in it if biggie's ownership is undisputed.

As I suspected, it was probably done outside of Rolex. Thanks for the info and will let you know what happens....

As for his style and his music, I think both Biggie and Tupac were highly overated. They were probably more (in)famous for the total package, the media "celebrity" than they were for their mc skills.

During their prominence I would say Nas was probably the best rapper with his lyrical flow and pentameter and pronounciation but I would also rate Jay-Z, Meth, Red, The Gza, Prodigy and Havoc (Mobb Deep), Snoop, The D.O.C, Q-Tip, and perhaps even Raekwon and Ghostface...maybe even Busta Bus' (for his original style).

Going further back although I still have my faves such as LL, Rev' Run and DMC, Slick Rick and Chuck D and Flav (more production quality than emceeing skill) the greatest of all time is still Rakim.

All of this however means very little, it's just about what makes your head nod!!!!!!!

J

PS I say this as an overweight, thirty-something, middle class, English whiteboy trying to sound cool
Thank you for the Rakim shout-out. Seriously.

Damn!!!

I know I am getting old when I can have a conversation with people about old school hip hop rappers. You know you are getting old when rappers become legends....:

I feel like I am 50....

Was wondering how I missed this thread, then I saw it was from 2008, not 2009!

I was in Vegas when Tupac got shot.

These guys lived their music, and perhaps that is why it was/is so potent. Very much like western ballards... guns, women, etc.
