If I did not know it is the picture of an RM mega watch ?
I would have thought ...by just looking at it ....that it was a citizen or Casio ...honest !
But instantly recognized the Rolex watches ..not so the Patek white dial either

I love Rm's but not the divers, they tank in price. I love their extra flat ones, they have the richard mille look and can still be dressy or casual!

Too funny. People on a Rolex forum calling out RM as being all hype..

Umm.. 3 or so years ago Rolex watches were collecting dust on AD shelves being offered at discounts.

Rolex SS models are some of the most hyped watches on the planet.

I wonder if RM will be in production like Rolex 100 years from now? 100 years of innovation all do to Rolex hype....I think not!

I think you should get what you like but of all the watches you have DEFINITELY keep that Platona!

Their customer service only switch on when you bought your first piece from one of their boutique.. from then onwards, I think RM owns the best customer relations in the watch game from my experience so far (ps this is in Asia).

Quite frankly, that RM looks somewhat like an old Bulova Accutron I had when I was a kid. If you really dig that look, then I'd try to source a vintage Accutron, which can be had for pennies as compared to the RM. That way, you get to keep the Platona and the PP (or trade one or both for a Platinum DD) while still getting the look you want.

I would get rid of that modified Daytona and save the rest for the platinum day date. I don't hate Richard Mille watches but their pricing is absolutely ludicrous and some of the dislikes from the community partially come from RM belief that their watches are somehow more valuable than prestigious brands like Patek or AP.

The RM is so ugly. There are so many Chinese rip offs too. I don't understand how they get away with their prices with most of them coming with a rubber strap?

You currently have an admirable collection. I would not dismantle it for a RM. If you said you were going into PP or AP with some high end pieces I would say ok. I would keep what you have and add a Platinum DD later.

I'm a firm believer in buying what you like.

That written, I personally think RM will be the new Franck Muller but at least Frank Muller watches look nice. Honestly, the RM you posted looks like a special edition G-Shock to me and it does nothing to change my impression that RM is a watch for uneducated high earners. When one considers what the same money would get you from Lange, it's truly a travesty.

Keep the platinum Daytona and the 5960 and sell the SD43 and the other Daytona to fund the RM. You end up with three excellent watches by three great houses.
By the way, what is that other Daytona with the Arabic numerals, red chronograph hands and ceramic bezel? Is it a customized watch?

Thank you ALL for your fantastic comments!
You guys are great!

All of them were GREATLY appreciated. There is some great passion here and lots of wisdom. I think you have all helped me to gain great insights, understand the "marketplace of watches", and - most importantly! - solidify my feeling and opinions of my watch tastes and habits!

Some things I have learned:
1. I like what I like.
2. I am NOT wed to Rolex or any other brand. Clearly they are BEAUTIFUL timepieces but, ultimately, and like any brand, they are just watches. It is WE that attach "value" to them. All of these brands are "overpriced" to some extent, but the "value" they bring to us (either in our hearts or bank accounts) is worth the price we pay.
3. That said, I NEVER want to lose my shirt on my quest to experience a variety of watches and try new things! I am not a rich guy, but I am am blessed with opportunities to work hard AND SMART, not just in watches but in all phase of my life. And every dollar is important and meaningful to me!
4. I think I'm going to try an RM! It is singing to me. If I am smart, even if I hate it (you NEVER KNOW, lol), I can sell it and try something else - or get back one of the old ones if I miss them!

5. To me - life is about the journey! - trying new things and experiencing the road less traveled. It may work out, it may not. But at least I tried it!

Happy 2020 to all of you!
Thank you for your great opinions!

And I wish you a great journey to where ever your watch pursuits take you. All of this may seem silly to many - or even each other! - but isn't it all so much FUN?!?!

Most people don't know the brand well and for the most part haven't tried one on or researched how they're made.

On top of that most people can't afford them either. Therefore being outside the target market--self esteem remains intact if you didn't like the watch in the first place or wouldn't wear it for free etc etc.

The WIS that fall in the target market all have RMs next to their high end APs and PPs.

If i were to get an RM, it would be the 11.

I like the flyback action.

In the metal, it seems well built and robust.

Actually, if not for the outrageous pricing, i would have gotten one.

As others have said, go for what you like. Personally, I have always be very very curious about RM. I finally had the chance to try a couple on (good luck finding a dealer with stock). I can say the round models, especially the divers, wear huge! They are really, really, really huge. If you don't have a monster wrist and the swagger to have a beast on your wrist, you probably will not enjoy wearing them. However, after trying a tonneau RM12. I GET IT. It is ridiculously comfortable, and sleek, and is a work of art and I debated selling off my collection to get a RM30.

And all that being said, I think once the general wristwatch hype dies down a bit in a few years, RM prices will dip back to retail, maybe even see 10-15% below retail for preowned.

The biggest problem with RM is that it is really hard to just glance at it and see what time it is. I actually need and use my watch like that...

Most of the comments are all out against RM. I say we give it a chance and just maybe will get the fondness for it as we have Rolex and some others.

Richard Mille is a fad that will be gone in 5-10 years just like Roger Dubuis, Franck Muller, and others.

RM started the business in 1999 n launched RM001 in 2001. Ppl back then thought it’s a FAD too. I guess RM is lucky to survive the last two decades. All fluke?

RM wasn’t on the map and big until 4-5 years ago. RD and FM were also started long before they became a fad and then faded.
