no comment on the age part, but most college undergrad living situations is probably not where you want to send your 16610 or any rolex really

If he wants it and you want to give it to him than do it!

This isn't about "earning" it or about graduating from college. That's all just stupid, this is a gift not a paycheck and graduating from college is it's own reward... Why someone would need to add a watch to that to make it any more special is beyond me.

Listen, if you want to give it to him then have some quality father-son time together and give it to him... Who the hell cares what day it is... Birthday, graduation, or just a whatever weekday. Some of the best gifts are at random and unexpected.

21 would be a great time for the watch or if he grads earlier then that would be an appropriate time to give your son the watch. Just my two cents!

How hard working is he? And would he appreciate the watch?

Would it get damaged because he will think it is just a watch or would he take care of it.

I got my 1st Rolex at 21 and appreciated the hell out of it.

I can't wait to see a Rolex on my son's wrist (as long as he appreciates it) and something tells me he will

I say wait 'til graduation, which if he's 21YO shouldn't be much longer anyway.

Focus on college. Like you said "kid". I assume college expenses and car expenses etc. are all covered?!

At 21 my goal was to drink as much as possible and bag as many girls as possible, not a Rolex...this seems strange to me

Agreed. He's just a kid. Wait until he's a man and done something worthy. Even then I would buy him a new one and not give him yours. Leave that to him when you depart and it will be a priceless treasure to him and his children.

For the record though on myy 21st, my dad met me in NYC. We had dinner at the famous 21 Club. After the meal I was presented with my own personalized bottle of a 21 year Single Malt.
Great story! So much better than my meaningless 21st birthday.

If he's on TRF, then he is mature enough to handle it.

My only concern is getting it lost or stolen. Heirlooms can't be replaced. When I think of the number of times I crawled home from High Street (OSU) to my dorm on south campus, I'm amazed I'm still alive. If I had lost one of my Dad's watches I'd be really PO'd at myself now. Maybe give it to him on the condition that he leaves it at home or in a safe place until he graduates??
