Come on, why are we even here? With the age of smartphones, nobody really needs a watch, guess we should all spent the money on philanthropy instead of on any watches.

Ellen DeGeneres Just Bought a Vintage Rolex. It Only Cost Around $750,000.

That’s impressive. And she’s known for being a watch enthusiast and collector

I went to a Hodinkee meet up last year and brought up that there has not been a woman on talking Watches and suggested Ellen. I was told they have tried but no luck so far.

Surprised to read that here. A few of us here seem to have enjoyed reading about the purchase so doesn't that count as philanthropy?

Why would you not do the simplest Google before posting such a snarky comment? The woman is generous and charitable beyond levels that most of us can't even imagine.

Why do people have such a need to count other people's money?

I don't even know who any of these are. I've only become aware of Ellen because she comes up on here from time to time.

On another note, has anyone dealt with the seller? We're headed to Amsterdam in January and intended to pop into their storefront.

I was going to say Ben and the gang are not idiots. Everyone knows Ellen has a killer collection. Not to mention her following is enormous. Ellen would bring more new unique views to hodinkee than all of their current talking watches combined.

I would bet dollars to doughnuts they have been asking her for a few years now.

I'm not a fan of gold watches...but man, that Daytona is a beauty! And for $750,000 it very well should be a fantastic looking watch. Looks like it may have been polished, though. She should have asked for a discount.

I have. Really hard to tell on authenticity of vintage watches; this isn’t a seller issue but more so an issue with vintage watches in general.

Frankly, with what that woman went through in the 90s, and the work she's done for LGBT rights in the last two decades, she can do whatever the hell she wants. There are few people who have had such a net-positive effect on so many people's lives, and society's values.

You go girl. Enjoy your Daytona.
