It's amazing. Think about what it would take to provide enough torque to flip a disk every minute, two disks every ten minutes, and three disks every 60 minutes. A regular watch can transfer torque constantly from the barrel to the pinions and move the hands immediately. The ZW has the mechanical equivalent of a capacitor - stored energy - and it's not constant. In other words, every 60 minutes it's got to have enough stored energy to flip three disks vs 1 or 2 disks every min or ten min. In my mind this is one of the hardest complications to do right.

You are 100% spot on Mike which is what makes this piece amazing in my mind! Simple look of the dial can be quite deceiving!

Lange spent 5 plus years on this and the DS--both extremely complicated and first of their kind!
The reason so few made are so few are capable of making!

The gentleman in question is a REALLY nice guy, very down to earth. This interview is old... he's added a few more amazing pieces to his collection since then.

Must be very hard indeed, I've always found it amazing to have a watch who would have a date change (or time change in that case) in a fraction of a second but I never quite thought about the fact that it must take quite a lot of energy. It is amazing indeed and especially when you think that all this energy comes from such small pieces.

Actually--that wouldn't be the tourbillon I would ever get if I ever did get one which is unlikely! It would be the PLM for me!

Regarding the PLM.

You have moved out of 'watchmaking' when you see the engineering of this model Kenneth.
