This offers nothing to the content of this thread, but I often wear the exact same thing, and it is also one of my favorite ensembles!

To the point of your thread, I tend to agree with you in the fact that, even if I don't "notice people noticing", it doesn't mean it isn't happening. It doesn't take a big gawking face or a verbal comment to notice a watch.

You sound serious, and it appears that you are taking offense.

But, I would include yourself with the part oft post
Above that reads:

This whole thread (private fights aside) reminds me of an article I have read years ago. It was about Stockbrokers (I am one). It was saying "Your client wants you to pass him in your Lamborghini!".

It was an interesting discussion on the fact that the display of success can be considered 'inappropriate' to some and 'fantastic' to other people.

Going back to the Lambo. The client who gets passed surely understands that he contributed to the price of the car, but at the same time he enjoys thinking that he is working with 'one of the best'.

What do you guys think? Did I express it well enough for you to understand what I am trying to say?

I'm neither an "astute businessman" or a "successful people in position of power" FWIW. Just a simple IT guy who likes watches.

But we're going way O/T so I'll stop it here.

ok, you put yourself delierately on an "offended" party mode, when none existed. I am patient and polite, and give you a compliment, and you still pretend to be offended?

whatever, budy.

I get it, but that's wishful thinking.

Most of the world sees things as a glass half empty kind of thing, and the broker driving a Lambo would most certainly garner feelings of "I'm paying you too much" from the client.

As someone who both owns several rolexs and a lambo I don't think this is always the case. It really depends on the individual and how they view themselves in relation to you. I constantly found an issue bringing my car to work, so I don't do it anymore. Constant comments like Seth got…. along the lines of "Well business must be good" or "I just made your car payment". They say it as a joke but its not, a lot of average working class people can't wrap their head around what you put in to get what you have, instead its merely you have it and they don't and they can't justify why you deserve it. just my .02.

And I couldn't agree with Seth more on this entire thread, he was merely posing a thought and some did seem to take it personal or make arrogant comments. I just find it hard to believe anyone would buy something like a rolex just because they want to tell time and nothing further. I won't spell it out

Some people notice, some people don't.

Before I was into watches, I can honestly say I didn't really notice anyone's watch unless it was blinged out with diamonds. Instead I noticed their car or clothing - I did notice if they were driving a Ferrari or other high priced car, wearing a Burberry shirt, Hermes belt, or Louboutin shoes. Now that I'm into watches that changed and I notice instantly but I think for the majority of people, they're the same way as to when I wasn't really into watches (the only watch I knew about back then was Submariner and Datejust, had no idea what AP, JLC, Vacheron or Patek was and didn't care).

As Biver says watches are how you communicate your taste, style and status to people without talking. But it is ofc a two way conversation and unless the other person is into watches you are talking to the deaf, which occurs 99% of the time in the streets and maybe 90% in business.

As has been said cars and clothes make far more noticeable statements to people than tiny watches that no one can read the brand of.

Yes - true and true Seth.

I agree. I see a lot of people talking about "flying under the radar" if you really wanted to not have people notice your watch you would pick a different brand. I don't care what model Rolex you wear, people are going to notice.

I agree. I think people notice a lot more than many on the forum realize.

I read so many posts on here of people claiming theyve had there watch for years or decades, and nobody ever noticed. Just because you didn't see them looking at your watch, or were never paid a compliment or comment - doesn't mean they don't notice.

And you'd be surprised at how many people notice. People behind counters at delis, gas stations, banks, bar tenders, waiters, grocery stores, construction workers, etc... I know because I grew up working a lot of those jobs. Co-workers yap about it.

Careful or you may get shut down for being over dramatic

speaking of being overly dramatic… aren't half the posts on here? I mean I see people overanalyzing purchases, should I do this, should I do that. Can I wear my watch here there or anywhere. I think my watch crown isn't lined up perfectly. Some dude at the mall looked at my watch wrong and might have scratched it. Etc Etc. I don't see what point there is in saying someone is being overly dramatic on an internet forum. I'd rather discuss something interesting then read post after post of the same repeat nonsense. For example someone will ask how much the retail is on a certain model and it will get 3 pages of the same answer. Maybe I'm in the minority but I can't help but scratch my head and think someone was just having a bad day…. either way makes little sense to me.

I have posted this before the only people that notice my watch are Strippers, Car Salesman, or the occasional Attorney.

On the flip side I am a watch guy it is a hobby so I notice what other people have on but I don't comment on it. A lot of people get a Rolex as a gift etc and have zero clue what the watch does or anything else about it.

To me it is no difference than a car guy noticing that someone is driving a rare muscle car etc.

If someone wants to talk watches I am glad to but I typically don't initiate those conversations.

I'm offended by your Putin picture, it looks like he has an uneven tan on it...

Perhaps we should introduce him to this guy.

I had a woman tell me that my Explorer is not a Rolex because it doesn't have diamonds and the members of my Commemorative Air Force wing collectively told me to my face that my Explorer was a fake.

I can only laugh at such tomfoolery, but it does lend credence to the idea that maybe the Explorer doesn't get the credit it deserves and does fly under the noses of some.
