Honestly no.

I buy watches to own and enjoy. Someone wants to make me a cash offer for my 5711, it would have to be pretty sweet as my investment is in the years I will have to own, wear and enjoy my watch and then give it to my son.

That's fair enough.

Lots of contributors post incomings of hot pieces but there's a lot going on in the background to grease those AD wheels.

I've picked up a 5196J, 5170P and a 5524G in the last 6 months because I wanted them but it sure stings to see their values now.

I'm not after appreciation. Value retention will suffice.

It’s worth something once you sell. Until then, it’s just a watch.

I think (at least in the current Nautilus market), you are still in safe territory with a 5740G. Particularly since it is an amazing piece on the wrist.

Yes, I see WF are still asking £180k plus for this, don't know how long it has been there. Also curious that Chronext never have this model, makes me think the market for this is quite small so it could be more volatile if a certain trend up or down transpires.

Haha that works for me also.

On a side note... I threw on my Panerai today. Bought it new from the AD. I received a small discount, but nothing to write home about and I easily lost thousands immediately. But there’s something I love about it and in this market I almost appreciate it more than some that just keep going up in value. Not sure why... but just thought about that today.

I been watch collecting hobby for close to 30 years....

Not a single pieces in my collection lose money..... Some make insanely more & some make less..... Even my wife 26mm two tone DateJust came out nicely..... That right you heard me......

Thanks to my grandparents and my parents knowledge.....

They told me if I want a watch, The only brand to buy are Rolex & Patek because they depreciate the least.... And from their knowledge I took it further........

I been adding watches never really want to sell it...... Only sold one because a friend of my bugging me to sell the President Day Date with a stella dial to him.... I bought it preowned for $7,000 at that time and sold to him for $13,000 two weeks later because he couldn't find any President Day Date for under $16,000 at that time....... If I were to keep it, it would be worth a lot more....

The key factor to do well in this watch collecting hobby game is to......

1. keep it long term....
2. buy it right at the right price....
3. If cash out don't look back to buying it back, unless the price is right.....
4. keep it as a hobby not a hardcore investment...... Otherwise you go nuts...

In today market the watch game and the watch hobby has change a lot.....

As for me the good part is the appreciation of all my collection and the bad part is you could kiss good bye at buying Rolex & Patek that you want at a reasonable price......

Even an unpopular models such as the 5119R-001 has seen its prices double...

@Fat_ninja, you said that your +1 does not want you to buy second hand watches. Any reason for that if you don't me asking?

I have tools now. A friend showed me which tools to buy :)

My AD asked yesterday...you don’t want me to size your watch? I’m like no. I can do it myself

She doesn’t like used things. It’s really as simple as that. No used cars neither. Houses seems to be ok for some odd reason

I have all my timepieces on the chrono 24 App which gives you an idea what your collection is worth similar to an investment portfolio updated daily. All my timepieces are stainless steel so everything is up big league. I can't complain just hope I can get a 5712 soon from my AD.

So true.

But overall the watches that I own are just pennies compare to the real estates that I own. I never buy watches for value retention or appreciation, if that’s the case I wouldn’t have bought indies, modified rolexes, and grand seikos.

1- 42 mm. Yes I know traditional pateks have all been smaller. But for a guy like me, 6’4”, 220 pounds- a 38 or 39 mm watch does t feel good. Does t look good. I love that Patek now has watches for all sizes. My 5524, 5522, 5905, 5968 are all 42mm. I will only buy pateks that are larger going forward- 42mm only.

2- it’s functuonal- as I stated- the dual time zone, night day indicators are very useful. I’ve worn it for travel all over the world and the watch is useful to know if I should call home or if it’s in the middle of the night and I’m gonna wake everyone up.

3- easy to read. One critique I have about my 5905 Blue is the dial and hands are a bit rough to read. 5524- perfect.

I dressed up my 5524 in a blue strap. It really spices up the watch nicely.
Could you upload a picture of it on the blue strap please? I’m always looking at different options for mine.

Whoa! If so... truly impressive!

How many Nautilus watches have you managed to acquire from ADs over the last year, Ninja? 6 or 7? When is the book coming out?

My wife is the same.

I usually just remind her I was not her first so I'm technically used.

What's with all the pieces on Chrono24 without any original papers or boxes? Feels sketchy...
