Oh, and what celebrity hasn't uttered the words "Do you know who I am?" when they need to?
Correct. In many situations, you'd be able to get a 5711 with a minimal (to almost zero) wait in 2013-2016. In 2017 there might have been a small-ish wait.

Saying he waited for 10 years is complete BS.

I don't think any 5711 is a "statement" piece.

A bespoke blue sapphire Richard Mille that clocks in at $2,000,000 is a statement piece.

It was season 6 ep 6 called secret admirer, I have just Googled. First time I watched it I was a teen so only on repeats did I get the PP ref.

Depends what statement you are trying to make.

I personally feel a 5711 shows great taste, refinement and someone that values subtle elegance.

Personal opinion here and I have watches that are more complicated and more expensive.

I completely agree.

That said, that's not the common definition of "statement piece" when people usually use that phrase. If it was, then we'd use "statement piece" as a phrase to describe literally anything used to make a specific kind of statement (i.e., "I'm cool," "I'm rich," "I'm classy," "I'm an idiot," "I'm a prick," etc). :)

Randomly, while we're on the subject of Kevin O'Leary:

Quote:
“Shark Tank” star Kevin O’Leary may give out smart saving and investment advice, but he admits he sets a “bad example” when it comes to his food budget.

“I’m on the road all week, five days a week. I’m spending about $1,000 a day on food,” or $5,000 a week, O’Leary tells CNBC Make It.

While he recognizes his food spending habits may sound “crazy” to most, for him — it’s business. In O’Leary’s world, business lunches, dinners and even breakfast meetings are the norm in order to make deals happen.

“For example, today’s breakfast cost me about $200,” O’Leary told CNBC Make It in July in New York City. “It was a very important meeting with somebody I have to do business with.”
While I completely understand the need for business meals, my God, man.

I'd have to work really, really, really hard to be able to spend $1k/day on food consistently.

Rest of the article here.

I can spend $1k in *one* day on food... But not consistently every day.

1k per day is not a big amount if he has all 3 business meals in expensive places and takes all the bills. Due to work I often attend such business lunches/dinners and one lunch/dinner could easily cost 500 USD or more for 3-4 persons.

He reminds me a lot of Trump, massive over exaggerated comments.

Shouldn’t he be in position where people are taking him out and not the other way around?

The only way you consistently spend $200 on breakfast is if you’re eating in 5* hotels. Spending $800 on lunch + dinner implies massive over ordering or a decent wine budget, all of which would get really old after awhile not to mention the health consequences of doing that for only a month let alone a year!

On any given week I probably spend $20 on food for lunch/dinner. Unless I’m with the fam

The article is just going to buoy up the market even further.

I dunno. It feels completely insane.
I got 5167 at my AD so feel pretty secure even if the bubble pops badly. Whatever. I enjoy wearing the watch. It’s beautifully thin which I have only recently come to really appreciate in a watch. The finishing is lovely and I love having the watch. However at these prices I’m considering a flip for a 5164 (at retail) but then again. I just love this piece.

On the topic of Kevin. Eh.
I respect he has done well for himself. Very much so but come on. Those bright red straps he throws on everything. So garish and it hurt the eyes haha

Unless I missed this in the article...

The article was focused on SS PP. What about as mentioned earlier in this tread with reference to Rolex - what about PM PP sport watach? Again, unless I missed something there should be no problem obtaining a 5711/1R yet there is. I believe this is a stunning timepiece. Less than two years ago one sat in the dealer showcase for months. Now I am waiting...
