80 in a 50 in a Corvette Z06. I got a mandatory court appearance and my license taken by the state trooper. I went and cried at the DA's office (I'm female) and got it reduced to a regular speeding ticket.

Whew!

Have faith. A timely and well presented ticket to freedom will be accepted by most officers without any consideration of reprimand.
Do, however, be aware that inordinate articulation upon presentation will be grounds for incarceration.

Honeymooned on the west coast of Australia on a motorcycle. Got stopped for speeding somewhere north of Perth- Toojays? Anyway, I actually was concerned about how to pay the ticket, being a Yank and all, so I asked the officer how I could pay. He asked me if I was going back to the States, to which I replied yes. He said, "I wouldn't worry about paying it then, mate".

Ya gotta love the Ozzies.

I now practice a form of civil disobedience back here in New York- I set my cruise control to 54 mph with the speed limit being 55. They can't pull me over now unless they decide to violate my 4th amendment rights- I don't give them probable cause, nor reasonable suspicion. I tend to think that traffic tickets have become profit centers for certain municipalities. Don't get me started on automatic stoplight cameras...

Usually here in CT (at least around the area where I live) they (the local police, and the State Troopers) usually give you a 10MPH speed limit break. So, for example if the limit is 40, you should be safe going 50 without being pulled over. It doesn't really matter anyway because the street I live off of, there is an accident at LEST twice a day involving injuries. People just don't care about the speed limit anymore, and it's a darn shame.
Today I was driving home from work on I-84 (through Hartford, into East Hartford), and I set my cruise at 71 (the limit is 65). I was passed by almost EVERY CAR !!! I was in the center lane, and people were going in the left, and right lanes to go around me. I just couldn't beleive it. The only ones who were actually going 65-70 were the big rigs.

Sheesh - you've got that right! I've been here in CT for the week, and made the mistake of taking 84 to 91 right through Hartford a couple of times. 70 just isn't good enough for these people, and with little ones in the backseat... I refuse to go faster! In fact, I decided to slow it down to 65 and probably made everyone around me mad. Too bad, so sad, and back to NC tomorrow!

I've only had two speeding tickets in my life and the first was when I was a senior in high school. My next/last ticket was in 1982. I was on my way back to college after the weekend, and I was going 77 in a 65 (i think?) on a rural state highway. After paying those fines, facing the lecture from my parents, and shortly afterward getting a job with the state highway safety office, I really lost interest in speed. One guy at the highway safety office had the job of going out and photographing accidents... he showed me a few of the pics and I thought there may not be more gruesome and senseless way to die.... so if I could do something to decrease the odds of getting in a wreck, I'd sure do it.

So I started this thred because something stupid I did and wanted to vent. going 93 MPH "stupid" no doubt in my mind in no way I condone speeding or anything like that. But non the less for it being my first ticket it was a dozi just wanted to compare to fellow TRFers. Now im really watching for my led foot not to drop so lesson learned.

Does that 17 mph over cost him more than say 14 mph over the limit in TX?

I was pulled over on a motorcycle once and given two tickets for speeding. Apparently I was being followed through two different streets before I realized there was a cop behind me and pulled over. Since the posted speeds were different on each street he gave me two tickets, one for each street.

One of the worst accidents I ever responded to. Two cars full of young kids drag racing over a bridge. The car to the rear's front tire clipped the the lead car's rear tire. At really high speeds. One of the cars flipped and the other went into oncoming traffic. Boom. It was about 3 in the morning.

One of the rear seat passengers was thrown nearly a block away. We found his body almost by accident in the lot of a closed gas station. 3 dead kids. 4 injured. Total mayhem. I was the first officer on the scene. I will never forget what I saw.

Slow down.

Unfortunately had plenty of tickets when I was young and dumb. One of my not so bright ideas was to go to auto dealers my father knew and pretend to be interested in buying a car. Back in the old days, they used to let you test drive them without a salesman. One dealer had a '69 Dodge Charger ( Looks like the General Lee in Dukes of Hazard) so I stopped by with a buddy. Went a couple of blocks from the dealership and dropped the clutch. Did the sickest burnout for about a block. Smoked the tires so much you couldn't see behind the car. Unfortunately for me, I never bothered to look behind the car before I hammered it so I didn't see the police car. Pulled me over, screamed at me for 1/2 hr before issuing a citation for reckless driving. Since I was a minor I had to go to court with my dad. I didn't want to own up for being stupid so I told my father the car was burning oil which caused the smoke. At the hearing my father asked the policeman if he saw the tires spinning or just the smoke. He admited only seeing smoke and never took pictures of the tire marks. Since he didn't have any evidence it wasn't the engine smoking, the judge dismissed the ticket. I knew I dodged a bullet and ending my "test drives".

$4000 and 1/2 year license suspension for wreckless driving while living in Germany. Fines are pretty serious there. Was my last ticket for the past 10 years - that's the only thing to be proud of I suppose. It was with my Audi V8 which I sold the following week ..

Back when in my early 20's (I am 42 now and much wiser) I was driving my roommates Z28 and wanted to see how fast it would go. Was in a 40 mph zone, had the speedometer pegged (85 mph speedometer). Got pulled over. Officer asked me if I knew how fast I was going, I answered with "no, the speedometer doesnt go that high." Believe it or not, he let me go without a ticket.

A few years ago I was driving my race prepared '69 Porsche 911 on the way home from work. I thought I'd rip through the gears for fun. It was about 7pm ... in a 30mph I was going 110mph and pass the cop who I didn't see. As I pulled into my driveway and into the garage, the cop pulled in behind me with no lights or siren. I get out of the car with a big smile on my face and give him a nod. He walks into the garage and around my 911, and asks; "Do you know how fast you were going?" I told him about 4,000rpm. His smile went away. He asked me what year my car was and I said it's a 1969. "Sure is fast for an old car." I chuckled and responded with a "Yeah, it is." He said he clocked me doing over 80, which at that point I said, "Well probably so..." We talked about the car as he began to write me a ticket. While he was doing that, a van with an older couple pulled in behind his car and began to scream at me for passing their house at a high rate of speed. With a big smile I on my face, I said to them "I appreciate your concern, but it looks like the kind officer is handling the situation just fine." They left in a huff. The officer said to me, "You sure are cordial toward them while you're getting a ticket." I asked if he could just not give me one and he said if you weren't going as fast as you were, I could...but I can't." I said "That's fine." So I got the ticket.

...the story doesn't end there.

The next day I called the court to set up defensive driving. The clerk asked how fast I was going in what zone. I told her 80 in a 30. She said you can't take defensive driving because you well over the allowed limit of 24mph over. So I asked her "How much is the ticket then?" It's a $135. "Okay, can I come down and just write you a check?" "Sure." she said.

....the story still doesn't end there.

Two or three months later my father had passed away. While we were making funeral arrangements, I told my mom I will handle the escort for the funeral as we knew it was going to be many cars heading to the cemetery. So I called the police department and asked for the cop who pulled me over in the 911. He agreed.

After the funeral, we were outside waiting to get into the limo's and the officer came over who had pulled me over and now going to escort us to the cemetery...and said this, "I want to apologize for giving you that speeding ticket that day I pulled you over in your Porsche." I told him it's okay, you were just doing your job. He said, "I wasn't suppose to give you that ticket, I actually got in trouble from the Chief." I asked him why. He proceeded to tell me that because I had designed a memorial for one of their fallen officers and the Chief told him that I shouldn't have given you the ticket because you did the work for free for the Department. I said it's okay, you were still doing your job and I shouldn't have been driving that fast through town. He did ask why I picked him to escort at my Dad's funeral. I told the officer it is because you were very nice to me even though I broke the law. We had good conversation, plus we've known who each other were for years...and you treated me with respect and didn't lecture me about speeding.

We shook hands ... I got into the limo while you saddled up on the police motorcycle to escort us to the cemetery.

The was the last time I ever got pulled over in my 911...well in THAT 911. I've been pulled over in my others ones. ;)

66 in a 25 mph zone. 2006 BMW [E60] M5. It was very stupid of me. I wanted to beat the car in the other lane to the on-ramp of a freeway. I beat him there only to meet the cop waiting.

The cop told me that had he been in a patrol car and not on a bike he would have hauled me off to jail right there. Instead he wrote me a summons and ended up not showing up. I had to waste 8 hours on a Saturday, but it was worth it not to get that on my record.

90mph in a 45mph--1969 Opel Rally, Va. 1971 (Lost my license for 6 months, but because I had stayed in Va. to attend court after my release from active duty, the judge let me keep the license until I drove to NM to live. I mailed it in to the court after my arrival.)

100+mph in a 70mph--1985(?) Toyota Corolla, La. 1990

103mph (actually 118, cop took it easy on me) in a 75mph--2003 Honda Accord, NM 2009

I keep PBA cards in my wallet to keep from getting them. When I was 16 I got a reckless driving ticket for doing burnouts in a 2001 Trans Am WS6. never got one in my Vette. Got one in VA for doing 80-65. I was just going along with traffic. I got a little mad because I really felt like it was because I had out of state tags. I track my corvette a few times a month so i prefer driving 150-160 on the track. Just because i have 660ish rwhp doesnt mean it needs to be used on public roads. Driving obsurdly fast on public roads is so stupid IMO. Just ask hulk hogans kid. Can't even talk about this on Corvette Forum.

My wife got dinged last fall.
The road was a 4 lane highway, perfectly straight downhill for approx 1.5 miles. Speed limit down the hill was 100k, and the bottom it flattens out, still 4 lanes, but the speed drops to 80k.
She was pegged at 118k,at the point where the speed limit drops to 80, for $195.

May not sound too bad, but our new and improved driving laws have a 40kph over the limit rule, if you pass this, you lose your car. Seriously, the cop can stop you, ticket you, and have your car confiscated.
So she was 2kph away from losing the car.
BTW, we were the only car in sight going in either direction, on a clear day. Doesn't make it right, but it was a cash grab, IMHO, but they boys in blue.

I won't argue that point, but for myself, I have avoided driving fast in traffic, but there was a time when if the streets or highways were clear, I'd open her up.

I also never give a cop lip. I just say, "yes, sir" and "no, sir" and take my lumps.

2006, Lotus Elise, middle of the night, no one on the road.... so I wasn't endangering anyone, just gunned it and left off on a 4 lane street that was empty for a visible mile.

Anyhow, I hit 98mph in a 35mph, total was $1,500+ in tickets, including a fabricated criminal "street racing" charge (which I was found innocent of at trial).

Needless to say, I haven't done anything that stupid since then. :)
