If a bloke said that to me I'd assume my flies were undone, did you check?

I would think they were lame if they served no real purpose, but they're very useful as a shorthand method of specifying a certain watch you're discussing. If they were just cute nicknames, I wouldn't be on board. It's far more sensible to say "root beer 1675" rather than "two tone steel/gold GMT Master with bronze/champagne bezel and brown dial with gold hour markers."

Hate them! In conversation I'd say "that guy has the all black gmt because he wants to be different " or "the older model gmt gave either a pepsi or coke color scheme if you don't want all black". I'd say "the guy in the meeting was wearing the blue sub. Upon closer inspection it was fake". Never smurf. 2-Tone sub reminds me of 1987. Bluesy eh. Blue face or black face. I got a new BLNR and put it on a super Jubilee bracelet. Not batman. I have a black sub, I have the green sub. If you say hulk I think you just learned about Rolex. When I post on IG I use the reference numbers. Own: 116610LV 116610LN 116515LN 16750 ( polar white) 116750BLNR.

I have a lot of respect for this brand & think the nicknames cheapen it. Its a Rolex. Gmt, sub, daytona - that's the name lol.

Nick names are international, I like them cause it's easier to differentiate Rolex WIS by region.
Here's a few I came across.
14060/114060 Blind Sub
116610LN Wet black
116610LV HULK is known as 66
216570 ExplorerII are Black or white orange
BLNR is Blue pin
116710 GMTII LN is Green pin
16610LV 50 Anniversary Sub is Green circle
116520 ss Daytonas are Black floor or white floor
Etc etc

Those that don't like the nicknames are stiffs with no sense of humor

It's ridiculous for someone to say that the nicknames "cheapen" the watch or the brand, people have too many things to complain about these days lol.

I'm a big fan of nicknames in general. Especially the childish ones. The older I get the more I refuse to "grow up". Life is too short. Let's have some fun. They something doesn't really become yours until you name it. So say hi to Tucinelda my day date II.

I can see why some would bother others, I personally don't care for "Rollie" myself, but can't say it raises my blood pressure even a single point when I hear or read it. I just don't use it.

That said, I call this one Ceramic Non Deep Sea Non James Cameron Sea Dweller 4K ("CNDSNJCSD4K"). Hoping it catches on.

Depends on the nickname. I've gotten used to them so I mind less but I thought the cartoon names given to watches were stupid at first. Smurf, hulk, batman, etc. What really bugs me is when people correct one nickname for another... Recently, and perhaps this inspired this poll, is people being upset a DSSD was referred to as a James Cameron and not a D-Blue. If they wanted it called by its proper name its one thing, but when someone quibbles over which nickname is correct the whole nickname thing is revealed as pointless.

Pepsi, Coke, Smurf, Batman, etc. are widely used in the forum, so why not!

Depends on the person one is conversing with. If they use nicknames then so will I. If they use reference numbers then I will too.

I'm bad with nicknames. Wish I was better? Yes. But I can't say I'd make the effort trying to learn all the nicknames, I probably wouldn't bother.
