From your photos, 34 for sure. IMHO the 39 looks comically large.

The women’s watch looks much better on you
jk bud. But yeah, 34 suits you the best. And there’s nothing wrong with that. You’re a relatively lean guy, proportionally speaking the 34 looks great. |

That 39mm would look fantastic, IF it had a ceramic bezel encasing it at that size on you. Seeing as it doesn't, it looks really bad on your wrist, flat out. |

If Gosling is pulling it off, it's fine on a normal sized man.

The 39mm is far too big for you. It would annoy the hell out of me to wear a large watch on a small wrist.

I’ve got my eye on the OP as well. Fantastic value in the Rolex line. 39mm all day. It’s not a decision for me... BUT the 34 does look like it fits you well so smaller may work for you. Go with YOUR gut. Where YOU feel like you’re leaning ever so slightly. That’s the right choice for YOU :-)

The 34 looks great! Those comparison shots make it obvious that the 39 shouldn't necessarily be the default option for men.

OP, How old are you, and what do you usually wear? While the 39 is pretty big on you, if your a younger guy, or dress casual/youngish, I think you could pull off the 39. Personally, I think they both look good on you.

Thanks. I’m 37 and dress fairly casually most of the time.

I prefer either the 36mm or 39mm OP. The 34mm is more suited for a woman IMO.

I’d get the 39 then. My wrist is maybe a tad bigger than yours and I like my 39 Explorer.

If you're uncomfortable with the 34mm and it'll always bother you, you might have to get the 39mm. But from an impartial observer, the 34mm looks MUCH better on you. |

I think it's easy forget that these watches were supposed to be used in active situations, where you don't want a big ol' watch banging around on everything. I've always thought this old ad for the Explorer shows how a great a "small" watch looks on even a not-so-small arm.
I don't know who started the "if the lugs don't hang over the wrist, it's not too big" concept, but I think this looks manlier, rather than making the arm look small by the watch swallowing it up: |

Here's a comparison of the 34mm OP vs some of the more popular models in the Rolex lineup.
It looks fantastic on the wrist, yet tiny when compared to the larger models. I personally still think 34mm is the best size. Hope it'll be of some help with your decision |

The modern 34mm wears like a 5digit 36mm. Come over to the green side
