Forbes ranked Rolex No.57 on its 2012 list of the world's most powerful global brands.[3] Rolex is the largest single luxury watch brand, producing about 2,000 watches per day,[1] with estimated 2012 revenues of approximately US$4.5billion.

I can still see the end links sticking up on Rolex website lol
I think it's not necessary and better end links could have been produced - the DeepSea also had stick out end links it's right to say it shouldn't be this way on a high end watch. Still bought as that was unchangeable it's intentional by Rolex but when do Rolex ever make sane decisions that we talk about. |

The owner just posted more shots in the wild today
From dogpaws: "Couple more wrist shots taken while I was out for early morning workout and at our favorite Bill's restaurant."
I would just like to thank dogpaws of WUS for sharing his posting with us.

I really like the new SD-C. I will echo the comments that the bracelet end link fit is not a flaw but rather is due to the top heavy nature of some of the larger Rolex sport models and some with precious metals. It's designed with comfort and function in mind. Didn't bother me on the DSSD and neither here - a Rolex is a little more than simple aesthetics.

I don't know about actual function as much as just a design choice....it makes the look beefier. That's it. Let's not exaggerate the weight of the head being the issue...the old SD was supported just fine on the old hollow bracelet.
Anyway, I don't get all the fuss...strikes me as complaining to complain? |

Even worse on here now it's been pointed out it really really bugs me - unacceptable I would go so far as saying as other models in gold and platinum much heavier don't have these ill fitting links do they, I think they just put the subc bracelet on this case it was cheaper to do than take the time to design new end links

Nice but the bezel is too crowded.. I hate that minute markers... Also I hate the bezel of my gmt master... Too much numbers but I know they have to be there.. The sub bezel is the best IMO.

There are sure a lot of forum members who dislike the end links on the newer rolex models. However, several of the older models end links aren't flush with lugs they actually are below them.

So the same dislike for end links above the lugs could be said about the older models where the end links are lower than the lugs.

I think I've met my match regarding the end link issue. I'm one of the fussiest guys my wife knows, and so fussy that Tony, Patrick, and George will barely sell to me ;-) But I don't get the end link thing. Looks fine to me.

In the end, we all will buy what sings to us and what we can afford. Even though Rolex produced the watch, once a member purchases it an out of excitement post it to a forum to share what they consider the cream of the crop, I don't feel that their purchase should be met with a lot of I hate this or I hate that post. ( THE FACT IS THAT THE OP IS THE ONLY ONE OF US WHO ACTUALLY HANDLE THE NEW SD 4000 AND SPENT TIME WITH IT, SO HIS OPINION TO ME IS VALID) He clearly stated that: "I also owned 16600 and 116660 but I personally like 116600 the best among the three (personal opinion)" One thing for sure is that change is going to come whether we are ready for it or not. So as watch lovers let's be happy for those who intend on purchasing the SD 4000 even with the changes. If you don't like the model you can express that even louder by simply not buying it.

Random: Anyone remember the thread about the sub with this bezel?
Looks like it was being made some time ago, and QC made a mistake. Everyone assumed fake. |

They probably let one slide out there so they could watch the popular opinion on the forums.

Hold on a minute...
No, wait ! I think I see it now !
Maybe it REALLY IS intentional. Maybe they are going for an Art Deco styled aesthetics: This would be consistent with the squarish lugs and the elimination of the chamfers... My brain was trying to see the familiar design and I just couldn't see past the change. Interesting, I still prefer the old style but this may finally grow on me with a bit of assimilation time. |

I suspect that the little extra lug length and curve is about dealing wit the visual effects of the watch's thickness. There is zero chance that this was an oversight or a mistake. The way that the top edge of the lug drops below that of the link looks consistent with a plan to minimise visual bulk.
Some are going to be bothered while others aren't. The same can be said of machined clasps, ceramic bezels, maxi-dials etc, etc. We all feel that the elements that we don't like must be some kind of error or wrong-thinking. Personally, I think it's a fantastic, considered update. Maybe a little expensive for me given that there is the more coherent no-date Sub' as an alternative but that's a very personal perspective. |
