If I buy from a grey dealer here on this site and the watch is BNIB, do I get my name on the warranty card? Or do you only get that from buying at an AD.

I'm in the market for a sub so if "I" get the name on it I'll wait a couple more weeks.

Perhaps.

I am sure he cannot deliver an actual 5 year warranty until Rolex makes it so.

It depends. If they received the watch from their source with an open card then yes. Otherwise no. From a practical standpoint it doesn't really matter since the warranty follows the watch. When you have the watch serviced the warranty card from the RSC will be in your name.

With the new cards won't it depend on when the card was "swiped". I'd imagine they all have to be swiped now before an AD sells to a re-seller. If this is the case, I'd definitely wait a few more days for double confirmation, then only get a watch with a July 15 or later card.

Haven't seen the new card in the flesh yet. Is all the info swiped or is that just to activate the warranty and set the start date? - i.e. is the owner's name still hand written on the new card or is all that info inputted via computer now along with the activation date?

I don't know...probably just the sale date, I would think (there may even be privacy issues involved in some countries). Even if it had the buyer's name the warranty would still be good for subsequent buyers, though, as you mentioned.

I was in the RSC over the last few days and asked two people there about this. They both gave the "can't confirm anything at this time" line, but you could pretty much tell it's coming from their reaction. One of them was barely stifling a smile when I told her it was all over the watch forums, and the other kind of winked and said "would be really good news, right?".

My sister-in-law is in Japan at a Rolex AD buying a DJ 36mm at this moment and they informed her that buying the watch after July 1st will have a 5 year warranty. Japan just raised prices 8% in Feb, I doubt they will raise again on July 1st.

I bought my watch yesterday. I was told by the AD that any watches bought after the 15th of june would have a 5 year warranty. He assured me that my watch would have a 5 year warranty so I bought it without waiting for the 1st of july.

Where was the purchase made and what does the documentation say?

And does the Warranty booklet that came with it say 5 years then ? If so, post a picture here for us to see.

The warranty booklet says 2 years but the AD told me that i will get 5 years. I see no reason why i should not take his word for it.

It wouldn't be in his interest to confirm this news if he has a lot of stock on hand with dated warranty cards would it?

I would. In my 20+ years of owning Rolex I've never known them to do anything other than what the warranty states. I had a Sub which stopped two weeks after the warranty ran out and had to pay for a service. It's a moot point but it sounds to me that your AD either has a very extra-special relationship with Rolex or is making things up as he goes along.

Just for fun, post a picture of your brand new watch for us all to see. I do like everose gold, hope you went for it like you said in this thread http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=413427
Mind you, I was never a 24 year old entrepreneur. I could only afford a stainless steel Rolex at 19.

Unless this AD is a very good friend of yours, or someone you have a long relationship with, the reason why he would say that is to sell the watch while he had you in the store.

Many people in sales will say anything to make the sale.

Rolex seems extremely strict when it comes to policy. Not sure why you wouldn't have just waited a few days for an official announcement from Rolex.

I would expect a responsible AD to tell that you it's fine to wait and that he will hold the watch for you until the 1st. It's not like it's a crazy amount of time.

Was just at an AD in cabasas, ca today. They said they know nothing about july 1 and a 5 year warranty. Also spoke to a Seattle AD that someone on this forum recommended earlier in the day and they too deny anything about a 5 year warranty.

ADs aren't filled with people in the know. I told the rolex boutique in NYC about the Cameron D Blue and they looked at me dumbfounded. This info comes from sources I respect a great deal more than any random joe working at the jewelry store
