The Smurf looks cheap and that is precisely why I bought it. It fits my appearance If you want anybody to know that you wear a solid gold Rolex, buy something else.

Not sure about simply awful, but a nice
Navy Blue would've looked quite classy.

Not convinced by the shade of green Rolex insist on using.
I understand it's their 'heritage' colour.
But again, I think a dark, 'racing green' would've looked cool.

in some pics it looks kind of nice. In some pics the blue looks horrid.

This watch looks better inside in artificial light rather than in direct sunlight.

Agree fully. Precisely why I didn't buy one.

I was shopping for a PM and I had the exact same thoughts after making the trip to an AD to try on the 116619LB. I don't think it looks cheap, I just think the flat blue is a bad choice for this watch. That's why my current grail is an 116618LB.

I wonder if anyone has ever wanted the white gold so bad (but hated the dial) that they swapped in the dial from an 116618LB.

White Gold Sub - Smurf - cheap looking?

Removing my post. Didn’t realize thread is from 2018.

I prefer the Black Dial/Blue Bezel version. But if choosing between a Sub and Day Date.. I'd go Day Date easy.

IMO, The Smurf was really a miss from Rolex being so flat, hype notwithstanding, the new release should have had the blue sunburst bezel and dial. Blue is a tricky color to get right. It is a work in progress. Best news is you can't go wrong buying any Rolex.

I think it’s a great looking watch. There’s no mistaking it for something else.

I wouldn't call it cheap looking, but it is a very subdued look. Which may be the point of it.

Last time I was in NYC it was the only Rolex in stock at several dealers.

While an old thread, this is my favorite Rolex. It's not cheap looking to me at at all. It looks like a white gold watch with a beautiful blue. That said, you have to know Rolexes to know exactly how special it is, and I like that.

There's a lot of bright blue on this one, I'd reckon it looks more natural outside of the AD in natural light.

Yes, an old thread, but this is the reason I sold my "Smurf." The blue dial just never looked right to me. Not sure I'd use the word "cheap," but the flat blue pastel dial didn't appeal to me over time.

The new version, especially with that fantastic, more streamlined case, is incredible. I much prefer the contrast of the black dial against the blue bezel. The whole watch just pops a lot more.

I gotta say, that really does look spectacular. Maybe it is the blue but I feel like the thinner lugs are more noticeable than on black bezel 12-series Subs?

My fear in buying one of these, while I agree looks spectacular, what if it comes out in the same configuration but in stainless steel? But again, amazing looking watch you have here…
