Always the same sad story - buy some other pieces I have no desire or need of then- maybe. Soooo I guess I will have to limp along w my present collection. :-))wahhh

This is just ridiculous. My complaint (and experience) has been it’s impossible to try and start a relationship with a Patek AD without buying overpriced stuff that few if any people want.

If someone with your history has stumbled, what chance does anyone else have?

I’ve given up. I’d much rather deal in the secondary market for Patek. I haven’t been a fan of some of the premiums, but it’s still almost always cheaper unless you’re truly into less popular models or other watches/jewelry that the AD may offer. And, finally, some of the premiums are moderating.

I wonder what % of grey inventory is

1. AD selling to co conspirators and then splitting the profits later.

2. Big spenders who flip to offset their spending a bit

3. Buyers who bought one or two pieces that are hot now, without any big fanfare prior to 2017, but "sold high" after the big jump from 2017-to-date.
Some of the grey dealers that have been around for a while have established relationships with ADs all over the world. I purchased a 5164 a year after its Basel debut from a grey dealer and paid about 3k less than retail. The watch was new (stickered) with unsigned papers from Haussmann in Rome. It was discounted because steel Pateks were considered “entry level” pieces as most buyers preferred the grand complications. I assume these older relationships yield a new steel watch every now and then.

If you, as a grey, have been purchasing from an AD for 20 plus years, why wouldn’t the AD put you at the top of his/her “list” for a steel Patek? This is all supposition on my part.

Things got way worse, SS market for everything exploded, Aquanaut joined the Nautilus in being made on unobtanium.

I think MRSP price and AD who are please us to buy a Nautilus or Aquanaut it’s a sweet dream. If some of us want to dream no problem.....
Let’s see the truth ....from the begining of this pandemic situation I read same opinions with crisis and poor AD who are please us to buy Nautilus, Aquanaut or Daytona, GMT,etc....but in real situation the AD when you enter on store don’t even bother to put you on the waiting list.....you must qualify by buying some watches who don’t want and then they put us on waiting list......THIS IS REALITY!
If the economic crisis will hit Patek why they are let Nautilus to can be achieve very easy when Nautilus and Aquanaut help Patek to sell and other collection who nobody want ....
Mrs. Stern told us how they don’t want to be a watchmaker who are associated with only one collection..... and then introduce new model in that collection
On other point of view Patek it’s not a mass producer compared with Rolex.
Patek make in 15 years number of watches who Rolex produce in one year. AP need 20 years to produce numbers of watches who Rolex produce in one year. So, I think Patek will sell his watches and will not have any problem because the demand it’s very high and grey dealers sell.....
Yes, economic crisis will affect watch industry but not Patek, Rolex or AP......
