To equate an in person interaction with a stranger on a random day in a random place to posting on a public message board centered around watches where one willingly signed up, would also be silly

If you want a comparable situation say 'I went up to a random person at a watch event where we both were attendees and complemented his AP ROO'. See how it makes a huge difference? There's overlap and practically nobody would think that's weird.

Just to poke in this a little.
So you’ve spent 5000 messages discussing watches to strangers online, but when a person standing in front of you, with a shared interest it would be “borderline silly” to say “hey, nice watch”. Yeah. Lol

You automatically assuming this shows me you haven't traveled much Again, you completely are ignoring the situation and lack of overlap. Being here is like signing up for a convention and we're willingly wanting to discuss a common subject matter. You randomly waltzing up to some guy at a theme park is kind of weird. and the funniest thing is you still aren't dissuaded about this, even with said individual also giving you a weird reaction.

Just wanting to poke back a little. Yeah. Lol

Lol. Ok.
Said the gal who wrote 5000 messages to stranger she never met, about watches, but quickly criticized someone talking to an actual person. Silly, you say?

Well traveled, you say?? Lol.

I think I'm starting to better understand why your Universal friend quickly scampered away.

Have a good one!

I'd rather someone remark than not.
Therefore, 99.9999% of all people that cross your path or make visual contact with you on any given day are suspects…whew!! That can be a real strain on your adrenal glands.

“Randomly waltzing up”?
“Giving weird reaction”?

Selective reading. I see. You got to 5000 posts in days, i guess.

I live in London and thankfully only had "watch people" engage to talk watches

Best to interrupt him, thank him for his opinion and then tell him to piss off.

No more so than Rolex wearers. Any more with Panerai no longer a hot commodity you’ll find primarily true believers wearing them because nobody believes they are good investments. The same can’t be said for Rolex.

Went to Formula1 yesterday, finally saw a Daytona SS (white) in real life. It's a nice watch. Likely it would feel somewhat small, but it's nice.

Also had a random counter with a watch guy. One of the vendors there had some kind of chrono, didn't ask him about it. But then he saw my SD43 and asked if he could take a picture of it - sure I said! He's saving up for a Sub.

Of course we talked about ADs these days - it's not enough to just "save up" for that Sub if you're just an Average Joe. Snowball's chance in hell if you're just looking for a one-and-done SS Rolex. (This is from someone w/ about 60k in watches, most of them for my wife, from ADs that are now closed with all those lovely 'relationship' washed down the drain.)

I was at COTA too yesterday. My cousin's steel Daytona was the only one I saw, along with a random bullhead and one IWC chronograph. All together, not great for watch spotting.

I was at COTA Saturday and saw quite a few Rolex's. 2 SS White Daytona's, several Subs, a few Day-Dates, and probably some I did not notice.

I would agree with others that the White Daytona is a pretty piece but smaller than you would suspect.

I was at COTA all weekend as well. I saw plenty of Rolexes, even a few white dial Daytona’s. Made me wish I would’ve worn my black dial instead of my BLNR.

In my experience, if someone is knowledgable enough to notice my watch, then they are an enthusiast like me and a good conversation almost always follows. I have had the oportunity to try on many different fine watches as a result.

I say insure it, wear it, enjoy it.

I wear my JM Daytona all of the time and no one has ever said anything to me about it. My guess is well leas than 1% of people give a sh*t about watches. Have some situational awareness and wear what you like and you’ll be fine

Trust only your friends and family and people you know/work with etc. Rest in the wild don’t go there.
