I could go on...small crown...its the only sports watch to have the crappy date just clasp (no flip lock)....etc etc.

That being said I think it's a lovely watch.

As for vintage...it is only popular because it was so unpopular when it was in circulation .
Not a "squiggle" but a lighting bolt. Given the watch's function, that is pretty cool. A lighting bolt would look silly on a DateJust.

That being said, the no-date and color scheme give it a more limited appeal than others in the Rolex line. I'm not a fan of green and, for example, I would never consider an LV, especially for a one-watch person. But, everyone has a different taste, and it is nice that Rolex makes some watches intentionally that are not designed to appeal to everyone.

All this negativity makes me want to go out and buy a Milgauss.

I find it to be a great watch for the right buyer. My guess is that some use the Milgauss as a daily wear piece. I would consider it after I clear off a few more on my list.

I reckon it's because of the colors. It's the most colorful SS Rolex ever made

It's the bizarre nature of it's role that gets me more than anything....

A GMT for pilots......I get that.
An Explorer for explorers.....I get that.
A Daytona for racing drivers....I get that.
A Submariner, Deep sea etc for divers.....I get that too

But a Milgauss for scientists working in strong magnetic fields.......REALLY?

Did that field really necessitate a whole watch design dedicated to it? I doubt it.

Milgauss will be sought after in the future.. just my gut feeling. Look at those unlove vintage milgauss and vintage daytona what happen to them now?

I wear mine all the time in rotation as I have four Rolex. Certainly a daily wearer.

In fact, it's on right now.

I know it doesn't have the green glass, but the white one is lovely, and I think would make a good companion for my black exp II and blue pelagos......

I appreciate the milgauss for it's scientific heritage and funky vintage seconds. People question the purpose of a watch that can withstand high magnetic fields that no regular Tom would encounter. But then question the purpose of a watch that can endure insane depths in the ocean that the average person doesn't frequent either. Magnetic fields surely are more common than extreme pressure. It's a nice way to exercise a manufactures watchmaking virtuosity. Mechanical pieces that can survive in the toughest environments.

The GV is a treat if you can view in person. Used to be a huge contender for me as a first rolex.

The GV model will gain value with the past of time for sure, as someone said specially after this thread, it has been definitely proved that is a beautiful piece !

i think its probably unpopular among non WIS who just want to be seen with "a Rolex" as they may be worried the design looks un-rolex and will be considered fake by others

Before I became a Rolex owner I used to look at the Milgauss in shop windows and say to my wife "if only they made this watch with a date and without the bizarre lightning bolt hand".

My wish was granted and the DJ2 116300 got released.

Amongst my brother-in-laws ridiculously extensive collection of high-end pieces, he has a Milgauss that he had a green Milgauss that he gave to my sister. Having had a proper look at it, it's actually a great looking watch.

Clearly, the majority of people who purchase Rolexes are not 'watch people' and most are individuals who want a great quality watch, but that's it. I think that with such an expansive range of Rolexes peices, many would go and buy a datejust of some sort or a sports model.

I think you have to be a 'watch person' to appreciate the Milgauss fully.

I suspect that it will be one of the few 'modern' watches that will become collectable.

Why is the Milgauss so unpopular?

The Daytona is not SS. And the new air king has its writing in green and logo in yellow (still I prefer the milgauss over the new air king - I find the numerals are all over the place) Not the whole bezel in multiple colors as well as the hands and even the sapphire glass

Ok discount the Daytona. The Airking is just as colourful I think.

Rolex frequently goes "one step too far". In this case, it's those orange markers at the 3, 6, & 9.

If all the markers where white, it would be a cool science-y watch.

But those ridiculous orange markers make the watch look like it's just the last accessory of an outfit that includes an orange fright wig, size 86 shoes, and a red rubber nose.

I cared not for the GV when it came out... Now I LOVE mine. It just works - IMO. Matches outfits I never could have imagined. I agree it is a acquired taste, but no one was more surprised than I that I would like it.

My only issue now is...the husband of a woman in my wife's social circle recently got one. His only Rolex from what I have noticed. I would never want to be caught dead wearing mine around him. He's even commented on the fact I have more than one Rolex - at a group dinner!

At any rate, he hardly wears it. His other watches are all Oakleys. He must have received it as a gift. OK. Serious digression here.

I still like the funky watch.

The heard your compliant about 5 years ago and the 3,6,9 are now the same as the rest of the markers on the Z-Blue.

Still my favorite Rolex, beautiful, unique and heavy as hell!

To my eyes it looks silly. The lightning bolt seconds hand and the green rimmed glass. No and no.
