Good to hear about the watch being returned, however I personally think giving the shop a small thank you would be quite a nice thing to do. They ultimately could have just flipped and sold it anyway. Bit of generosity goes a long way.

Long story short, I found it in someone else's office miles away 14 weeks later. That to me was a miracle by St. Anthony answer to my prayers
that's the way of faith. much better than being angry. thanks for sharing. its definitely difficult to share stories like this but they are uplifting.

I've just had the day from Hell at work. Got home, poured a large single malt and read this thread. And suddenly the sun is shining! (Ok, it's pitch black outside but you know what I mean.)
Congrats on the result.

Wow! Talk about an amazing story. I am so happy for you. What are the chances! In a way, Iʻm glad that the pawn shop owner, for whatever reason, paid to purchase the watch. If he hadnʻt, one can only imagine where it mightʻve ended up.

Wow! That is great news and I am really very happy for you. That was also good advice regarding the pawn shop owners possibly trying to shake you down so they won't end up empty handed after accepting the stolen watch. Good luck with getting it back without too much fuss!

WOW pretty incredible story. not sure i would compensate the pawn shop owner especially after he blew you off. receiving stolen property is receiving stolen property, and you have primary title regardless if pawn shop owner knew it or not. if the pawn shop owner has a duty to verify if its stolen, then he just did his diligence and got burned on this one.

Is he crazy??

Otherwise... Congrats on getting your watch back!!!

Going to have to disagree with a LOT of people here....

I'd call this a reward/finders fee for the pawn shop.

He could have refused your watch, think about it, if all the pawn shops refused your watch you'd NEVER see it again....I mean...NEVER....ever.
Gone.
You'd be out a lot more than whatever you'd be offering him that's for sure.
Pick your loss I guess.

I hope you get it back in your hands fast. I know in Canada, the pawn broker accepts certain risks with the industry they choose to service. The fact that the watch came back as being "lost" is no excuse not to turn it over. I would think pawn brokers by their very nature would be carrying insurance for cases like this.

If he doesn't hand it over, I'd charge him with theft, and then tell him you will be picketing in front of his business telling passerby's that he's a thief. I would then send his information over to the better business bureau, or the pawn brokers association and file a complaint there.

He should have all the information about who brought the watch in, so the police should be able to go after them too.

And if that doesn't work, perhaps Fukushima eventually will.

Great news. I'm looking forward to the outcome as to what was paid for the watch and hopefully not much if any damage was done from the fall based on what happens to your wrist. The watch is yours I can't see having to buy it from the PS but maybe a little thank you reward would be nice esp if they don't give you a hard time. My exp is people in Japan are honest so I'm surprised this happened in the first place. If there was any country for something like this to happen to me Japan would probably be my fisrt choice but maybe the economy is changing values a bit?
