Bro, Class of '98.

I remember between classes by Tommy Trojan I could count half a dozen or more - many vintage. All the frat boys had Subs and all the Chinese girls wore Datejusts, some with plastic crystals.

Today I still see a lot of Rolexes in LA. At Dim Sum, I go more for the watches than the steam buns - lots of Daydates and Datejusts. I was at Urban Plates in Pasadena last weekend and saw a TT GMTII. The tech guy at my office wears a TT Blue Sub.

I didn't hang out much with the Greeks, so that might explain why I didn't see their watches.

I have had more conversations about Rolex watches at the airport or on a plane than anywhere else

How often to do you actually see a Submariner on someone’s wrist ?

Almost every time I look at one or a few other coworkers. I’m almost embarrassed to say but I’m on my 4th SS SubC. Just always keep coming back to it as the perfect watch for me. I loved my AP but it I was always a little careful with it. A SubC Bluesy isn’t far off though or a YG Blue SubC.

I was at my AD (unfair as you'd expect to see a few there). However, 4 of us in the the shop had on 116610ln's. I'd say it's a bit common.

I'm from NYC, I'd like to quantify "see them all the time" since many seem to just be vaguely saying it. I would probably say it's not uncommon to spot a Rolex once or even twice a week, sometimes I'll only see one once a month or two, it's just random, but it sure as hell is not like every single day, multiple times a day.

When I'm either in a professional setting or an expensive shopping area, I'd say I mostly will see a sub model, usually the black color one. In the hood, old used models, with the much smaller cases that someone could get for around 2-3K.

Other than that, lots of Omegas, Panerais, and then the homage pseudo luxury watches such as invicta etc.

That's funny - the last time I was at my local AD getting my bracelet sized, the only other person there was an older gentleman who hadn't bought a Rolex in years, and was shocked when he was told the current prices. Needless to say, he wasn't wearing a current Sub.

I see subs out "in the wild" all the time. TT's and SS. I don't see as many 16618/116618's, but do see them on occasion. They aren't hard to spot. I guess it just depends where you go.

Yeah, wish Subs were everywhere...

I would have a HUGE problem with a AD requiring me to buy something which cost thousands of dollars before being allowed to see it and try it on first. What happens if they sucker you into buying the watch, you get to the store and you don't like it once you try it on?

I live in Toronto and you don't see them too often.

However, I was briefly at the hospital and, get this, I saw three (3) less than an hour.

Steel Sub - worn by a very young Doctor treating me for a slight eye infection. He was gifted the watch by his father when he graduated.
Nice story. (Longer than I have time to tell.)

I needed to drop some paperwork off elsewhere and while standing at the counter, I noticed the Dr. beside me was sporting a TT blue dial DJ. T'was older (snd In desperate need of some cleaning but quite nice. He split fast so we didn't speak to each other. (Meaning: I didn't get a chance to open my big yapper and interrogate him. Lol)

As I was leaving some 'heavy duty', rather flashy, Dr. was beside me in the elevator. Solid gold Day Date which looked like it was polished 'within an inch of it's life'
(In a good, dazzling, can't miss it kinda' way. Looked stunning under the quartz lighting.) I commented "Really nice 'Rolex" which produced a huge smile and the remark "thanks bud. Yeah, it's a honey". I was wearing my steel and gold, super-shiny DJ - but he didn't notice. Bastard! (Just kiddin' folks.)

So, hospitals must be 'bogarting' all the Rolex watches. (Lol)

When living in Austin, I honestly did not pay attention. My office all but had a no Rolex policy-they were what clients wore (or not), but we did not wear them so not to project any image.

Previously at UT in the 90’s, I could see Tag Links on at least 4 frat wrists in any business class-more common than Birkenstocks, not as common as BMW’s. At that point the Link’s were about $1500, and I have read on the forum Subs were 2k. There may have been tons of Subs, but they were not as easily recognizable accross rooms. If I had to guess, Subs are probably a dime a dozen in UT Business Grad school now-

Rolex are everywhere in Singapore but I see more DJ than Subs. I see more women wearing Subs than men.

I did, too, which was why I left shaking my head. DavidSW to the rescue, though. Mine's coming home tomorrow!

I DID see them "everywhere" when I was in Thailand recently, though. Along with a bunch of Pateks and APs. They were sitting gathering dust on a street stall. :D

I live in a medium-sized city in the Southeast US, and if I see a Rolex sports professional model, it's almost certainly a Sub. Granted, we have an active military presence in our community, and that's generally the population wearing these watches; the other population is the average guy working in a variety of fields (not exclusively high $$ professions). Of course, I see older DJ models (on older men) much more often. My two cents from a smaller, less affluent area...

My dentist wears a glorious old yellow gold DayDate.....which he uses when swimming and diving. So he doesn't seem to need a Sub. He does have it regular,y serviced, and the seals checked.
Of the Subs on the streets, are they all assumed to be genuine?

Other than my wrist I have seen a glut of them, I saw one in 1982 and one in 1967.

Their relative prevalence is most likely due to them being 'first stop' in aspirational watch purchases; from then on comes diversification...

I’m involved in Oil & Gas and they’re everywhere. Most of the young guys buy a sub or PO.

Almost daily that I see one, either someone on the street wearing one or in public transport.

I’d argue that it is relative. Not too many people own a Rolex. However, a majority of rolex owners have a DJ or a Sub. So if in a month you see 5 in the wild (which for me is rare), likely 2-4 will be a Sub.

Are they everywhere, no.
