I can't help but think how remarkable that a knockoff off the 5524 which everyone hated seems to suddenly be so popular. Is it the quick buck to be made, the stainless steel or an acceptance that maybe PP haven't destroyed the DNA and actually doing quite a good job on bringing new models to the market to fit gaps in their already wide range???

5524 is still different than 5522 since they both are hard to come by, but 5522 has very limited #s available.

I can only speak for myself. The 5524 is a bit outside my price range. I prefer SS to WG and I didn't love the pushers on the 5524. I also have no use for a travel time complication as I rarely fly for work.

I suspect it's mainly a function of price for many. As in, some buyers like me are comfortable and for others it's a drop in the bucket.

I think the 5524 is incredibly limited as well, they are produced in very low quantities and will continue to be an incredibly desirable piece for many years to come.

I think the new 5522G at $21,500 is value for money. Everyone has an opinion about the state of the industry and they say prices need to come down, use steel instead of precious metal, give the customer something that will hold value, don't overproduce, bigger watches are what people want, appeal to a younger crowd, etc. Patek is doing just that. You're right the range of stuff they produce is incredible. Did you see the rare handcrafts and enamel Calatravas with American themes? Amazing is all I can say.

I've loved the 5524 from day 1. I like it because of its larger size and am very happy that Patek has continued the trend of making more modern 42mm watches. They have plenty of smaller watches so I like the larger ones.

But I agree with you Karl.

Yeah, I found that with my 5167A I lost interest in the other Aquanauts. I think if the 5524 was in the ~35k USD range I might have ordered.

So now that I'm going to get the 5522 (if I want) do I still get the 5524? That was going to be my daily wear. Or save 25k and get this one and skip the 5524 and put the money saved towards my trail of 5270?

Or get this and 5524?

Dang - first world problems.

It's true, it's a good price for their treasured customers here in the US. Still waiting for word on whether I'll make the cut.

I'd say get both since they're quiet different and while 5522 has simple look, but 5524 has some nice details to it.

Yes 5270 for sure but that's later. In a year or so after I complete a personal milestone.

Calling it a new "entry level" watch for the 20-30 year old crowd. The price point is around $20K. see this link at 23:26 on the clock... http://nbr.com/2017/07/12/nightly-bu...-july-12-2017/

5522....if it doesnt work for you sell it at $30k!

I just saw the video clip....with its larger size that lower semi circle of the dial does seem to have quite a big void....

Motivation could be anything from profiteering to helping overseas members get one, with being a simple 3-hander with lumed numerals sitting in-between.
That’s about as in-depth an analysis as is worth bothering with.

Yes, the pushers put me most of it, and I think the price is the most appealing thing about this 5522. Probably a bit too plain for me even so, but the perfect entry watch into PP for many who want a conventional round dial as well as a nice and easy addition to a collection.

My travel has slowed a lot, but when I do I like the Rolex GMT better as a travel watch.
