No you are correct. Times were not good in 2009-2010, many were losing their jobs and homes, companies that were in business for years were closing their doors. The demand was not there around those years. Was a great time to purchase a 116520, if you had the funds.

I still enjoy watches and especially Rolex, but I find myself more successful with getting more skills and being promoted at my company than chasing ADs and greys prices.
This is obviously given… I don’t think (and hope people don’t) let getting a hot Rolex model from an AD take away from their daily routine. That would just be crazy. For me these possessions only became fun when I was successful enough to not care about how much I paid for them or how much they are worth on a secondary once I got it for retail as I’d never sell it.

My only complaint with it going up is eventually I’ll think of selling. Pricing is already well over what I’d pay!

Stranger things have happend, even for me.

I have 2 kids, which have cost me more 100k a piece, and they mainly brings me work and problems. And i am properly not the only one to do that.

50K for a Panda seems like a bargain in comparison

Nothing in life gives me more joy or fulfillment than my children...I'm going to be passing down the Panda to my son and Pepsi to my daughter, along with some others.

My daughter is into watches at a very young age.

This x100. Without kids I would have no reason to collect. I think of them every time I buy a new piece

Your Panda is one among millions of watches. Your kids are unique and the only legacy you’ll leave that matters!

I'm glad I got on the list last year. My AD assured me I'll be getting my white dial this year. Although tempting at $50k, I'll be keeping mine. I owned a black dial about 20 years ago and still regret selling it. I won't be making the same mistake twice.

lol you should only be glad when you get it. right now you have an empty promise which isn't much better than sitting on the sidelines. best of luck though, hope they do come through and you get it

Yes, it's pretty much pricing itself off of my wrist. It's a unique problem. Who'd have thought this would be going on 10 years ago when I joined? That wasn't even a diamond dial one.

Agreed. 50K for this watch is quite remarkable.

Pricing off of my wrist is exactly what is happening to me. I have a 116520 white that I have stopped wearing. Between not being able to justify putting $25k plus on my wrist on a daily basis and concern over becoming a victim of a violent crime I've decided to sell it. I've stopped getting any enjoyment from wearing it. Time to move on from it I guess.

All do respect, if you put any Rolex on your wrist, especially a more common and easy identifiable watch to the general public like a Sub you can get robbed. As far as the Daytona, insure for market value and there is zero pressure wearing one daily if you wanted to.

I've done previous business with my AD and feel confident they'll come through. The biggest obstacle for most AD's is thieir confidence level that you won't flip the watch. They know me well enough to know that's not going to happen. But your right, the deal isn't done until the watch is on my wrist.

Exactly plus at 60+ years old I don't need to get busted up by some POS who sees me as an easy mark. These are the times we find ourselves in now. One of many reasons wearing a nice watch has become less important to me.

I do believe the ceramic Daytona in both variants is cresting toward icon status in terms of a luxury good, much like a Birkin bag or air cooled 911. One of those items that will transcend the watch enthusiast circle and be a coveted status item in its own right amongst general society. I think if you want one, the best time is now and just make the plunge because if history is any indication it won’t get any easier to obtain and will only rise in value. How many wish they would have gotten a Mil Sub back when they were readily available? I believe this is the same logic that applies.

Well I mean, the best time to buy a 15k Daytona for 50k would …probably be never…
