Great Review,
Hi all
I fitted the ceramic sub's glidelock clasp to my Z series SD
.After tolerating my Deepsea for 19 months I found it too heavy.Enter the new purchase, a Z series Seadweller with its totally original tinfoil style clasp!I was lucky enough to buy a second hand glidelock clasp from the ceramic submariner.A few modern ceramic sub bracelet links later (they are actually half a mm narrower than the seadweller links) and VIOLA my perfect everydayer! Of course one keeps all the original parts in case of resale but I cannot stress enough how much of an improvement this addition makes to the older Rollers. To the pure, purists please bear in mind some of us would rather wear our watches constantly and hence the usability factor is king.My SD is totally authentic Rolex all the way (just not original) IMHO it is a touch of customisation that is within the bounds of the brand's integrity.
So for now the collection sits at the 116520 White dial SS Daytona ,a blue/gold ceramic sub and the aforementioned Seadweller...I'm waiting with baited breath for Rolex to put out a titanium Deepsea without the "gas escape valve /ring lock" writing on the dial-Now there's a thought!
Take care all:)

As we all know, it was replaced by the DSSD...and the rest is history...

Great write-up, wish the originator at Ginault was referenced, but I appreciate the information....

Well guys sorry to busy your bubble, Z serials are very common and then after there are in fact M serials which are very common as well followed by V serials which is the true last of the Seadwellers 16600.
V serials are the ones that seem to have low production numbers an even rumored to have a parachrom hairspring inside, but that has never been substantiated.

Love the review. Though I sold mine, it was the first Rolex I ever owned so I have a soft spot for it.

Congratulations! I just bought a new DSSD today and just love it! I actually really like the weight of the watch, it feels substantial.

Interesting, sold my Deepsea after 16 months because it was too heavy on my wrist. Replaced it with a Sea-Dweller made in 1995. Just love it especially with the open spring balls in the Lugs I can easily change the band and replace it with Leather Straps looks like a different watch each time I switch straps. Lastly, just got it back from Rolex Service looks like new and the rate is minus 1 second over 10 days on wrist. My best Bonus due to price increase to Deepsea after I purchased it sold it for same price so free wearing for 16 months.

Flipped an SD a few years back and always regretted it! My local AD just sourced a mint F reg from 2005 for me and now I am back in the SD club again. I certainly won't be letting this one go, indeed I suspect another will join it - amazing watch!

The Deepsea is too big, but I've got to see a SD in person.

Since I've been a member of this forum, I can't recall a watch receiving more accolades than the SD.

It deserves those accolades 100%. I bought my Z-Series 16600 based on the fact that there seemingly are no faults with it.

I love it, and have no regrets.

I have wanted an SD since 1988 and for one reason or another I have managed to own many other models (all of which I also lusted for over the years) but it has been the SD that I can't seem to get my hands on.....

The new 116600 was just released recently but after reading this review it made me remember why I wanted the previous models. Now I don't know which one to buy!!

16600 with exposed lugs
16600 with concealed lugs
OR
116600 with ceramic bezel

Decisions decisions.......

You cannot really go wrong with any of these - all brilliant! Had the 116600 but found it just a little too 'shiney'. Have both the lug holes and non lug holes versions of the 16600. Lug holes just slightly ahead!

I love the look of the new SD with hash marks at all 60 points around the bezel. I just wish Rolex had made this in a 42mm version...would snap it up in a heartbeat....I'm moving (very quickly) down the path of getting a DSSD.

hahaha no no no, 40mm is perfect, all it needs is a matte ceramic bezel with the matte dial!

I just got mine! Love it. Glidelock is just too sweet and the watch sits so nicely on my 7.25 inch wrist. Matt dial is non distracting to look at and thickness adds more masculinity.

This review is great, I just picked up my 116600 and this review helped me with my decision. I wanted, still want actually, an older 16600 but I couldn't find one that ticked all the boxes here.

At the same time I just achieved something in my life that I wanted to bookmark and write my own story with a Sea-Dweller that I decided a brand new 116600 would serve that purpose better.

There are definitely good things to be had from both references, and its more of a subjective view taken or the preferences you're after that will seal the deal for either.

Just my 2 cents.

Here's a lume snap, that's my youngest in the picture wondering why I'm obsessing about my new piece.
