I inquired with my AD Minutes after the release went live back in 9/1/20

He and I joked that it was like an inexpensive way to have a platinum DD lookalike

anyway I loved it then, and was so happy to get the first one they got back in 11/‘20…. He got one more for a special client a few months later .. and he tells me he does not expect to ever see one again anytime soon. Or maybe ever.

It’s no doubt about it a special watch and looks really cool in person .. beautiful.. it’s similar to Tiffany blue/teal/turquoise color in CERTAIN lighting … but it can also look nothing like it in certain lighting too

I have a pretty impressive Rolex collection so I feel I’m validated to say how it lines up with everything else in my collection and I’ll say this - as much as I love it, it doesn’t come close to any of my Daytonas or DD40, etc

BUT! For the retail price I paid, of course it’s worth it !! I think double retail is sensible for the way things are these days but this wild 34-37k stuff .. wow wow wow! Hey I’m not mad though !

I feel rather difficult to think about anyone paying 35K USD for a turquoise dial OP. Adding a little bit more money one could buy a platinum DD with ice blue dial on it with probably a reasonable waiting time at AD.

Many things seemed impossible at certain time. Now they’re the new normal. One just has to get used to it.

It's funny how one out of the bunch will take off for no apparent reason. I guessed it would have been the green one.

Probably a good time to mention that vintage daytonas were 250 bucks...and tbh, there aren't THAT many turquoise OP's out there either, so hey...

Not sure what you mean by that. The DXY hit 96.6 on Friday, near the all time high of over 100 that was hit during Covid. The DXY is the dollar index that compares the strength of the dollar against a basket of all of the other top global currencies, including the Euro. The dollar is the strongest currency right now as we are approaching a global deleveraging of QE from the Central Banks.

Not trying to start a different discussion and not trying to go down that rabbit hole, but just pointing out what the actual market is saying, as referenced by actual trading data.

Now that it's apparently appreciated in price, I'm "loving" this hobby even more, ha.

I had a buddy in a similar situation with a black ceramic Daytona when they were in the 22-25k range. I said if you have to have it, bite the bullet now. He didn’t, and now he’s really stuck. Now he’s gotta cough up 32-35k to get one. Best you bought one when you did!

Great color, i wouldn’t wear it but it’s pretty cool. It’s not anywhere near 35k cool, but if people are paying it, why not! I can’t count the number of houses i have looked at like, this thing isn’t worth anywhere near this price. Then it sells for 100k over. It’s a wild time.

I'd love one but it's not a watch I am personally comfortable paying over MSRP for. As other folks obviously are, this is probably a watch I will never own.

Ice blue DD has at least 2 additional complications compared to the OP....a day and a date function. What is OP offering? Only hype!

Some UK dealers are listing the watch near $58USD on C24....that is definitely crazy.

You may have not yet figured it out now, but prices are not said based on the number of complications. The 5711 is a time only, date watch and it commands 6 figures, Is it sports 8 jiggly bracelet, Very old Design and movement, with relatively limited power reserve. Pretty basic.

I bought one from an AD in Oct 2021 at just below AD retail
My wife loves it
So sad that this price movement is happening - she saw what they are being listed for on Chrono 24 and said - "I should stop wearing it" - I said dont stress keep wearing what you like
My 2 cents is that prices stay very choppy for a while to come - its not just 5711 , and Jay Z flexing , this is some chatter about that OP41 light blue dial getting discontinue

i was talking about my personal opinion...5711 is legend...you said it yourself. it is based on and old design. A legend design and before it got hot, it was trading just above retail and sometimes below. But 41mm OP straight to the moon with simple complication - no history behind - can't understand.

Circa £50k at grey dealer who for the most part have been at lower end of pricing. London based dealer. Unreal.

Things moved fast. The watch actually isn't 35,000, it's close to double that in a few countries

I tried on all the colors and both sizes 36 and 41 at Release in Sept 2020:

the 41 wears like a family ny pizza, too flat too wide and too bland

the 36 was absolutely charming, like a true stella of vintage vibe.

Totally agree with 36mm looking better on the wrist than 41mm. I had both sizes and sold the 41mm.

Someone asking £175,544 (I assume that's the 200k Euros that Bas mentioned?) for a £4,700 watch that's still in production.

What amuses me more is that these turquoise OPs are actually selling for £25-30k! I've long suspected that 90% of humanity these days are morons, and this only serves to reinforce that!

Absolute comedy! I. LOVE. IT!
