I think the Reduced and some of the different variations of the Speedmaster to be far worse than this release

So the strap size of the Moonswatch is the same as the original Moonwatch - 20mm?

I love this. So much of the industry is so SERIOUS but this is just FUN! Plus it will likely bring on loads of younger buyers to the Omega brand who otherwise may not identify as much with the Speedmaster as some of the “previous generations”. I will be in line at the SF store to try and pick up the Mercury or Moon, and Pluto. (If I can figure out a way to get away from the family on a Saturday morning!)

Right ... on one hand you've got Omega trying to go head to head with Rolex with their releases earlier this month with the Ultra Deep and those Speedys with imitation Rolex colourways. And then they pull this stunt , one step forward two steps back.

The meaning of “Swatch” is Second Watch. As this forum and others are showing, where the average timepiece price is probably $6-8K+, and yet these MoonSwatch watches seem to be a hit, it would appear mission accomplished.

This is literally walking the line between genius and horrendous…

If I had to put my money on one side it would be that it’s genius.

I originally thought that as well. But from the Swatch Group history page:

“…launching of a low-cost, high-tech, artistic and emotional «second watch» – the Swatch.”

I agree, omega seems confused . They want to compete in the Olympics and the Paralympics.

120 per model (1,320 total) or 120 total (10 per model)?

And, where did you see grey pricing at $2,000?

This is a genius move by the Swatch group. Hopefully the availability will be good to prevent the flippers from playing the mark-up game.

Thanks for bringing back the fun to owning/wearing a watch. I think the whole watch business has gotten a bit too serious - I mean it's a plaything/piece of jewelry that's strapped to your wrist. It has reached a point where people are getting robbed in daylight or b&e at gunpoint in their homes for their watches.

These MoonSwatches are a breath of fresh air.

Oh and I own a 3861 Speedy Pro, and in no way do I feel that it cheapens the brand or my watch.

I have 3 friends WIS but with different budget, none of them had regular Speedy for different reasons.
Now all 3 of them will buy the MoonSwatch

It is a hit for sure

Went to check them out at the london store today.
Two per person.
Only sold via swatch stores.
Look great in real life colour schemes.
Yellow really pops

I like them from the specs and the photographs. They appear to be a lot of fun and the price is right. If I like them as much as the pictures and the specs tell me I do, I will buy them all. This will also be a great gift for younger collectors to get started in the hobby.

The amount of indignant "clutching of pearls" from the Omega fan-base is hilarious!

Let's be honest here, these MoonSwatches are in no way (and never will be) a substitute for the real thing, and as such I can't remotely see how this "damages" the brand. They're a bioceramic (plastic) homage that're nothing more than a bit of fun. No doubt a massive cash-cow for the Swatch Group in the short-term, but in horological terms it's just a bit of fun, and despite all the co-branding, to my mind they're essentially just Swatch watches (build quality, materials, technical design, movement, etc), with Omega visual design: they aren't "dumbed-down" Omegas IMO. They'll be gateway watches for the younger crowd, and fun gym-watches/summer-watches for many more "seasoned" watch fans.

Yes they're all hyped-up at the moment, and they'll surely be a flipper's paradise for some time until the distribution is extended beyond the tiny number of Swatch boutiques, but I also have no doubt that all the hype will vanish in a few months when they're more available, and when many realise just how cheaply-made Swatch watches are.

Personally (and I say this an Omega fan and owner), I think they're a superb idea and a great addition to the watch world.

These things are already producing the kind of buzz/controversy as the Submariner going to 41. Love it or hate it, Omega has the watch world talking. Mission definitely accomplished. I mean, the name MoonSwatch alone is kind of marketing genius. This is an Omega subforum so of course we're focusing on that side of the house, but let's not forget there is a whole world of rabid Swatch enthusiasts out there too, and I'm sure the buzz on that side is just as loud. Win-win.

Edit: The rings on the Saturn model look pretty cool!

Gutted I've got no change of reaching either city on launch day. Hopefully these do get a wider release to all locations.
