Well, a sub is a sub us a sub.

Common, so are white shirts and Khakis… or … ubiquitous American make casual wear:

Baseball Cap
Jeans or Khakis, or cargo shorts/pants
tops:
Hoodie, T shirt, White or blue button down shirt, or polo shirt, Nike sneakers.

I have one non dare sub and wear it mostly in Summer, when at a pool or beach.

Most guys “look” dress the same in America.
It’s all about how you carry yourself and what else you wear that makes you less ubiquitous.

I have plenty of Rolex and other brands. I actually don’t see many Rolex models in the wild in a big Eastern US city. Meet with lawyers, etc. etc . Lots of apple watches… Yes a sub is many people’s first Rolex or only one…key is to own 3/4 Rolex: A sub date or non date . A GMT —could be a rootbeer, then a DJ or OP and a DD /President.

Sell it and get something else that would get more wrist time.

Wear a watch because you like it. Don't wear it if you don't like it. Don't base your opinion on what others have or don't have. Don't buy a watch because it makes you feel special or you want to show off how special you are compared to other people. There's plenty of other people wearing subs, but plenty more wearing sub homages or reps. It's the watch all other divers aspire to be, which is why there are so many sub lookalikes and clones. I love that my 16610 is very nice and appreciate its quality, but also that it flies under the radar. If I wanted something flashy, I'd wear my YM or my DJ, or one of my non-moonwatch Speedmasters.

Totally get it.
I guess subconsciously one of the reasons I grab the Daytona almost all the time these days. I walk into any bar or golf course and it’s sea of Subs. 99% are not even Watch guys so there’s not even any good convo’s to be struck up about the Rolex forum etc…also have kind of settled on that 40mm YM/Daytona/GMT size where the sub comes in just a bit big for me and I can’t unsee the larger clasp.

Looks too big on your wrist. Maybe an Explorer 36 would be the ticket in 2 tone. That’s uncommon and would fit well.

I was the other way around.
Never really found the appeal.
I preferred color over just black.
Then, it was the last to be added to my collection and since then, has gotten 80% of my wrist time from all my watches.
I now get the appeal I never did before.
But…… it everything is for everyone.
You have to be happy.

Thanks all for your comments. Decided to sell it (for a small profit) and move on.

Bummed that it wasn’t what I expected, but everyone’s responses were reassuring in that there’s nothing wrong with my decision.

Did you leverage the certified pre-owned program at a local AD?

Sub was my first Rolex--liked it so much I gave it to my wife who rocks it on an orange RubberB strap.
BLRO or Sky-Dweller has a "wow" factor I will never get sick of--try one of those.

Watch needs to be at least 3 years old in order to be CPO eligible.

With respect OP, you bought the wrong watch. The Sub has always been monotone, popular, and too large for smaller wrists.

It's a shame it took you three weeks to figure that out, despite none of what you hold against the watch being any kind of a secret.

I'm sure there is someone near to your AD who would consider that boring 'monotone' watch to be their grail, shame they had to miss out.

No, sold it to a reputable dealer. Think I would get hosed on an AD CPO program to be honest.

I too wish this allocation went to someone who wanted to watch. I was very let down in my experience with it. But up allocation and delivery I was looking forward to the watch and something that I’ve been chasing.

Thanks. I didn’t know that. I was just asking because in the event I wanted to sell one of mine, I’m not even sure what I would do. I probably wouldn’t want to sell it over the internet.

I guess I would sell it to someone like DavidSW, but the CPO program seems most convenient.

It’s a very basic monotone looking watch. Though I do get the appeal of it being a great daily. That said, I was at a conference last week, every Joe Schmoe had one. I don’t care about exclusivity but the fact that it’s so ubiquitous isn’t cool for me.

I’m thinking about moving on (maybe to add a 126711CHNR or a neovintage AP, or hold out for a SS GMT / SkyD blue or green).

Kind of venting here, but interested to hear what other people think or if they have ever had a similar experience.

Some pics for your time.

My 114060 lasted about the same length of time. Just too monolithic for my tastes. If it doesn't sing them move it.

Disagree. Your post wasn’t of any meaningful substance whatsoever. Maybe you don’t want to hear that I broke even and then some. Others might.

I think it’s helpful to know that this watch can be moved at breakeven or a slight profit should one not connect with it.

Thanks again to everyone else per my above comment - helpful to know that I’m not alone here and great to hear other peoples’ stories

Yep. 12 series fixed the gripes I had with my 11 series Sub, but they still don't have that special feeling I was looking for, Sea Dwellers do.

That said, if someone held a gun to my head and told me to pick one single watch to wear for the rest of my life no exceptions, I'd say 116600 SD4K. If they waved it again and told me to stop talking like a watch nerd, current Submariner would be my one and only.

Had the same issue. Enjoyed it for 3 months over the summer, it was great but started to feel a little boring and ordinary. BLNR on jubilee came, new 42mm fifty fathoms came, and the sub never made it on the wrist again, not once. I didn’t want to part with it, but keeping it on a winder also made no sense. Gone for a while now and zero regrets.

Sorry, no offence. What I mean is the Sub is the obvious choice to many, including the layman. It's a good watch but I find it too iconic for its own good, too ubiquitous and a little bit bland. The fact everyone gravitates towards it also kind of puts me off. In any case, more power to you if you love it.

Any member here already knows we can flip a brand new Sub, for a profit, but most of us wouldn’t choose to do so. We like our Rolexes. Also, I think it seems like something personal, you should not share. That’s all. No harm meant.

Thanks all. Brian, honestly, not sure what’s next. For Rolex, I’d want a sky dweller or GMT (don’t even know if that’s possible with my purchase history though).

Frankly, given how difficult it’s been just to even get this sub I probably will set my sites on AP next. Probably another three hander or chronograph.
