I recently saw a story about a real life murder investigation somewhere off the coast in England. If I recall, a small yacht was found abandoned, to which they ultimately found a body with a gunshot wound 60 feet deep at the bottom of the ocean wearing a Datejust that was no longer wound. Based on the 48 hour reserve, and other evidence they were able to get a really good approximation of the time of death. Additionally, they checked with Rolex to see if they had any record of whom the watch belonged to because they had no idea whom the victim was. Apparently the vessel was not his. Rolex had recently serviced the watch, giving them the address which led to his identity, and ultimately they figured out who was with him and killed him. It was a really interesting story, and yes the watch ran perfectly fine and was eventually returned to the family!

There is a Rolex print ad from the early 1950's with a similar story, the watch was found by divers. It contains a letter written by the owner to Rolex.

What's amazing is that the watch was recovered. That's a good story. As for the Submariner still working, why wouldn't it? The ruggedness and exceptional engineering are one of the biggest reasons I am so smitten with Rolexes.

I just thought of this randomly today... Pretty impressive that it was able to spend so long at the bottom of the ocean while remaining functional... My question is... How did a fishing pole break a pin? Did the line get caught on the clasp and open the bracelet? I'm having a hard time visualizing how the rod physically broke a pin inside the bracelet... Just curious...

That's amazing, what a great story. Rolex should promote this somehow.

Cool story! What are the odds of finding that again! Congrats on the find and I look forward to seeing it after the spa treatment.
