There is always some negative to most positives.
No negative means there are no positives and vice versa.
This incident should be taken as a lesson not as a deterrent to buying from trusted sellers here.

As for a 3rd party or escrow service that is quite silly IMHO and will never happen. How about dealing with the likes of a true trusted, established and very well known seller with nothing but pages upon pages of great feedback? What always gets people in trouble is when they shop price and go off the reservation. For every one time someone decides to ship a watch or send a wire to Romania from here in the US there are thousands of great transactions with great people who WE ALL KNOW that have taken place without a glitch! If it makes you more comfortable to deal with an AD...Cool to for it! As for this happening yes it is a bummer but it is also the exception not the norm...fact. People have choices to make and the less risk in that choice the better as far as I am concerned. Let's keep things in perspective. There are plenty of ways to minimize ones risk and plenty of us can attest to that. Why has this not happened to most of us? Think about it.....With that may everyone's 2014 be better than 2013!

How true.

TRF works very well. You just have to do your homework. Make sure to buy from a real trusted TRF seller. (saved me thousands!)

My watch was returned today.

Update

My watch was returned.

I had FedEx block the delivery and return to sender in just the nick of time.

I am out 500 dollars for shipping both ways...a small price to pay

I have learned my lesson: face to face transactions or deals with the known TRF dealers.

Happy New Year to All

Ryan

That's fantastic. 500$ is nothing compared to loosing it all. I say it's a win on your part. What about the others?

That's really good news!

Congratulations.

It's amazing what TRF can bring to bear, when a member is in trouble.

Great news. He was clearly stalling to get the package delivered. Glad fedex came to town.

Great news. Hope it will turn out ok for the others as well. 500 USD loss is bearable, but I think it is quite a high charge from FEDEX. Happy new year.

Great result, Ł500 is nothing compared to losing the watch. I hope this is a lesson learnt to other when buying from do called trusted dealers.

I am so happy to see this resolved! I am not a snob but definitely would be wary of doing deals with 3rd world countries... A huge congratulations to you sounds like it was a $500 lesson learned but could have been WAY more.

Well done TRF.

I'm so glad you were able to get your watch back. Yes, in the grand scheme of things, losing $500 is nothing compared to having the scammer win.

I hope it works out for the others as well.

Now, I just hope this guy gets caught. If I were the folks scammed, I would still pursue this until this scammer is brought to justice.

Excellent news!! Glad for once the shit bag lost! I have been following this thread closely and you have no idea how happy I am and it wasn't even my watch and had no skin in the game. I am absolutely thrilled here!

Now how do I get him to sell it to me for $500???

That's great news that you received your watch back.
This looser is still out there, possibly scheming for the next victim.
Is there any legal action that could be pursued to stop this from happening in the future?

You know what country have the biggest embassy in Romania? USA! You will be impressed if you see it! There is even a division specialised in this internet fraud in the Romanian police. So coming here is the best you can do, you go to the US embassy and you get all the possible help, to the Police and best you can do here is to go with your story to the TV and all the authorities they will take action instantly. By taking all this with the legal steps is taking forever, is not that you should not do that, but this is what the scamer expect you will do. I mean for example if I am frauded by a US scammer and I am in Romania he will not imagine ever that I will take the flight and spend 1000$ to recover my goods, he will imagine that I will make a claim and he will be bothered in 6 months or 1 year with some guestions and that's it. The guy sells watches in Romania on similar websites with this one, so many things can be done if the victims came here, don't waist your time, time goes only in the favour of the scammers every time.
I am not sure where you have this information from, but I can assure you it's not my experience of Romania. It has a lot of corruption, and underhand practices.

Oh wow!! Awesome!! I'm glad that you were able to get your watch back. It sucks that you lost $500, but as you said, it's a small price to pay.

I hope the others are as fortunate.

500 dollars for a very valuable lesson! Not too bad! A pretty good outcome if you ask me considering what happened.
2014 should be a good one

Depends If a) this shambles of a government can actually win properly against the bigger danger of Red Ed and b) grow a spine.
